Established in 1965, the museum holds the world’s most comprehensive archaeological collection of the Holy Land and the biggest display of Jewish Art and Life. The Israel Museum is located on a hill at the neighborhood of Givat Ram just near the the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Bible Lands Museum and the Knesset.
Stepping inside the Israel Museum, you will be treated to a collection of more than 500,000 objects related to biblical and Holy Land archaeology. Some of its most significant displays include a part of the 1736 Zedek ve Shalom synagogue found in Suriname, the Venus of Berekhat Ram, a 17th-century Islamic prayer niche from Persia and an ancient nail that is proof that crucifixions existed during the time of Jesus.
The museum was renovated and re-opened in 2010 and is now considered one of the best encyclopedic museums in the world.
