Situated on the banks of the Vembanad Lake, this bird sanctuary covers about 14 acres of paradise of lush forests, making it a favorite haunt of migratory birds that flock in thousands from various regions, such as the Himalayas and even Siberia. A visit to this place will let you acquainted with a variety of birds, including kingfishers, egrets, larks, night herons, paradise fly-catchers, lone golden-backed woodpeckers, waterfowls, owls, parrots, cuckoos, teals, water ducks and Siberian cranes.

If you are a fan of bird-watching, it is best to visit the sanctuary between the months of June and August, when it is the breeding season of resident wetland birds, such as the little cormorant, Indian darter and other species that are known to inhabit the region. 

You can also schedule your trip between the months of November and May, when the woods and bushes of the sanctuary play host to rare migratory birds and birds of prey, such as pin-tailed ducks, ospreys, marsh harriers and steppe eagles.
