Mangrove Forest in Langkawi
Langkawi is best known for its many natural wonders including its rich mangrove swamps.
The Langkawi Mangrove Forest or Kilim Karst Geoforest Park Langkawi is a popular tourist attraction in the region for its beautiful beaches, mangrove forests and karstic hills that look out towards the Andaman Sea.
Covering an area of almost 100 square kilometers, the mangrove forest is just a five-minute drive from Tanjung Rhu Beach. It is home to a wide range of wildlife including tree crabs hiding in thick mangroves, macaques, otters and monitor lizards.
From September to March, this area is also a location where you can spot migratory birds like kingfishers, kite eagles, and white-bellied fish eagles.
But aside from its rich mangrove forests, the geoforest park also boasts of stunning limestone formations that have been dated to be more than 500 million years old. This includes the Elephant Stone, Temple of Borobudur and the Hanging Gardens.
Several caves are also in the area where you can see stunning formations of gigantic stalactites and stalagmites. The most popular caves are named Bat Cave, Crocodile Cave, and Cave of Legends.
