Overall positive experience in terms of organisation and seeing the sites. Communication was good, pick up was 15mins late but no big deal, friendly staff. Journey time was about an hour more than needed because of the pick ups and drop offs in the ‘big bus’ approach which we were fine with but it’s a point you may want to consider. Armed security guard chaperone with us - reassuring and disconcerting in equal measure - guess that is what it is and there are risks with everything in life. Break during the journey for toilet was 15mins and then we got back on the road which was good. Toilet on the bus was good for peace of mind in case of emergencies. Toilets - take tissues (not always available) and small notes to pay (20EGP ish each time - no change given). The guide makes a huge difference to the experience. We did the Cairo trip with this company and had a wonderful guide however, our guide for this trip, Mimo, just seemed more interested in upselling than anything else. He was very energetic and enthusiastic at first stop - Karnak temple and we enjoyed his sense of humour, but then he seemed to disengage. We didn’t hear anything much from him at the temple of Hatshepsut or Valley of the Kings, he was just pointing us in the right direction and then on his phone so we didn’t feel the benefit of the ‘Egyptologist’ guide at all. We had questions actually but he wasn’t even around so we just read up on Google afterwards. We stopped for around 30mins at an alabaster factory - bit of an intro talk then ‘herded’ into the shop to be sold to. We accept that there’s always a level of this on organised tours but we felt annoyed when we then arrived at the temple of Hatshepsut and were told we had 20mins to explore - 40mins here would have been enough but 20mins was a rush and we didn’t feel we had time to ‘take it in’ which was frustrating given where the time had been ‘lost’. Valley of the Kings was also rushed with the guide frog marching us up to the tombs then hanging around on his phone and just directing and chivvying us along to the three we were allowed to enter. When we asked our guide about visiting Tutankhamun Tomb (we knew you needed a separate ticket - £15 each) he told us the ticket should have been bought all the way back at the main entrance (5min walk and 5min cart ride each way). We didn’t have time to do that. He said he told us that before we left the bus. He was defensive when I suggested it wasn’t clear. He certainly didn’t do a check at the ticket kiosk if anyone wanted to do this and our impression was that they probably didn’t want people to do it due to time constraints otherwise they could have listed it as an optional extra in the itinerary like Banana Island (and just like they did with the option to enter the Great Pyramid at Giza on the Cairo trip.) Not the end of the world but not very customer focussed. He was very interested in upselling the Banana Island optional tour - we declined because we had read in advance about the animal welfare issues there. He later tried to offer us a lower price and then dropped it when we declined for the second time. There was a strong sales pitch for ‘Banana Island’ (optional extra stop) which made it sound fabulous but we had read about animal abuse here. The alternative was to be on the bus for an hour while it drove back to the other-side of the river to meet the rest of the group coming back from the island by boat. He tried to make this sound as bad as possible - he said we’d be waiting on the bus for 90mins and it was only 60. We still would have stayed on the bus if it was 90 mins but seems a bit unethical to offer a chargeable trip when the only other option is waiting on the bus and then to exaggerate the amount of time waiting in the bus. We never went to see for ourselves if the reports of animal abuse are true but prefer not to risk it! Were glad we did the tour because we saw the sites we wanted to see and these ancient sites really are something incredible! But, if you don’t want to be rushed around to allow the tour company to keep enough time available to do their upselling, maybe consider a small group tour - we haven’t tried that approach and I’m sure there are pros and cons but maybe they’re more customer focused?

I have done this tour before, however this trip was nothing short of organised chaos. We were transferred to another bus at the transfer spot, once on board I was abruptly to SIT THERE, I explained that I would rather sit by a window, but was loudly told, no English at the front. It got worse from there, I was then told that I was not allowed to sit at the front as that seat was reserved for the police, and that I needed to take a seat opposite. Having changed seats again the same guide angrily shouted, nooo not this seat, and then souted, "NOW YOU SIT AT THE BACK" he then processed to from march me in front of all the other tourist's to the back of the bus. Had the instructions been clear it would have saved me a lot of embarrassment, and humiliation. The back of the bus was full of Russian tourists and the guide called George was just as rude and unprofessional, I had no idea what was being said and his attitude towards English guests was was unprofessional. After a long 5 hour journey we finally arrived, our guide Abdul was very knowledgeable and seemed to be well respected amongst his colleagues at every site, he was the only good part of this trip however everything seemed very rushed. On the way back we stopped at the designated rest stop, but what should have been a 20 min break turned into 45 mins. All I can say is the trip is well worth it to go and see the amazing sites, however I do not recommend this company at all, a lot of guests were left very frustrated by the lack of information and the general attitude of the non English guides. I do not recommend.
