Stop At: Luxor Temple, Luxor 23512 Egypt

Our tour guide will pick you up from you hotel or your Nile cruise to start a half day tour to the East Bank of Luxor. The Temple of Luxor and the Temple of Karnak. Unlike the West Bank, which was ever the main area for cemeteries and mortuary temples, the East Bank represented the main settlement of the living throughout the millennia - a role that has hardly changed. The vast majority of hotels and tourist facilities are to be found in the East Bank.
The Temple of Luxor, open daily May-September 6am – 8pm, October-April 6am-9pm- as it stands today, largely the work of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II the Great (whose colossi and obelisk stand at the entrance) Also to be seen is the small "hanging" Mosque of Abu al-Haggag, its position a reflection of the ground level that had built up before excavation of the temple precinct

My Husband and I did a 17-day trip to Egypt. Being older than the average tourist, we wanted to take our time and enjoy the sights, the cuisine and have ample time for relaxing. Despite all the reading, YouTube and anecdotal inputs we decided to do a curated trip, designed especially for our interests and at travel at a more relaxed pace. Covid interrupted our plans, but as soon as we could, we resumed planning. Friends and Family were concerned for our safety, but we never felt anxious or experienced anything other than Egyptian courtesy, polite curiosity and interesting conversations. There was a marked police presence at all tourist sites and at hotel entrances, but it felt more reassuring than uncomfortable. We were fortunate to find Hany El Dasouki, the Managing Director of Luxor and Aswan Travels. From the outset, he understood our concerns, devised an itinerary incorporating my list of interests, and made all the arrangements for us. But most amazing, was his constant reassurances that we could make any changes we wanted to the itinerary, rearrange the schedule and he was available 24 hours for questions, information and assistance. His advice was invaluable (eg. don't stay overnight in Abu Simbel! Gratuities - to whom and how much) I have never experienced this level of concern for our well-being or impeccable arrangements. There were no additional charges, no hidden costs, no surprises - the agreed tour costs were final. The quality of Nile Cruise, selection of Guides, quality of airconditioned vehicles and local restaurants were top of the line. He chose the best Egypt Air flights for our convenience and made sure we experienced the temples, museums etc. at the least crowded times. Our itinerary included private transportation and personal Guides, and we chose the hotels we preferred. During our tip we visited Cairo on arrival and departure, Giza, Sakkara, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Luxor and cruised down the Nile. We managed to escape the urge to buy souvenirs, except when we visited the GEM - a glorious museum, that is still a work in progress, but very impressive. We stayed at the Mena House, a stone's throw from the Pyramids of Giza and a breathtaking sight from our balcony with our morning coffee. The Hilton in Luxor was very comfortable with a sunset view and an infinity pool facing the west bank of the Nile. The Movenpick Hotel in Aswan was on an island, and though a bit dated, had excellent service and very comfortable rooms. In Cairo, we stayed at the Marriott Omar Khayyam Hotel and Casino; a confection of French opulence and modern day comfort. The views of the Nile and Cairo were fantastic. Our trip was so phenomenal, that already we are planning our next trip to Egypt, with a group of friends. Everyone wants the experience!

We booked a 16 day trip - with private tours in Egypt and had the lovely Shimaa Esmail as our tour guide for the first 8 days. She was so knowledgeable and a joy to be around. We wanted to have her join us in Jordan for our tour of Petra - that’s how much we liked her!! We were introduced to the local cuisines and had a marvelous time! This company took outstanding care of us, coordinating the various covid-19 requirements (tests to fly) and we felt very safe and cared for. Would recommend again and again. And Shimaa is the best guide!!!

The tour was exceptional! Our driver was excellent and the car was clean and comfortable and arrived on time. Our guide, Shimaa, was attentive to our needs and made arrangements for us to rest in the shade when we got tired and adjusted the tour to suit our physical needs. She told the history in an interesting way that made Egypt come alive. If you go on this tour, ask for Shimaa!

Shimaa was our guide for this tour and the west banks tour. We stopped at Karnak Temples and Luxor Temple, each with their own history and story which was explained very well by our guide. We stopped at Merit Aton Papyrus and saw a paper-making demonstration and beautiful gallery of papyrus art. I would highly, highly recommend this tour! Ask for Shimaa and you won't be disappointed!

Our egyptologist guide (and his driver) got us to Karnak as it was opening. We had karnak to ourselves for at least a half an hour before tourists started coming in. It was absolutely gorgeous with the early morning sun light streaming in. Our guide taught us about the builders, the gods, the rituals, ceremonies, history; read some of the hieroglyphs.
