Not for the first time went with Viking. The trip was organised brilliantly with a 3 day stay on Cairo - Roughton place but history and museums superb. Stayed in 5 star hotel on Nile. Transfer to boat by private jet at Luxor. Baloon ride at dawn. Saw all main tombs and temples. The 2 guides were unbelievable in their knowledge, contacts and humour. Mohammed best ever. Ship is new and small...takes 80 but 30 scared away but trouble in Gaza. Great atmosphere and staff..especially Petra- more like friends. Expensive but great value for money. Can't think of a negative.

We booked through Marriott Bonvoy and were assigned by them to a La Vacanza Travel-operated tour, called "Look at Egypt." The tour guide from Look at Egypt" was supposed to meet us at 8 am at our hotel in Luxor, and did not bother to show until noon. No communication. Then the female tour guide in Luxor who purported to be an Egyptologist, did not have any command of the Greek/Roman/Byzantine portion of Egyptian history--which is more than 900 years. She could not even answer simple questions like "in what century was this built?" Her English was also horrible. She also failed to heed time, and got us back to our cruise ship late, so we missed it and had to meet it further down the line at another dock. In Aswan, we had another tour guide. We asked him to organize a car for us to Abu Simbel. He said he did, but he did not.

I travel a lot with friends but we never do tours, we always make individual arrangements. We decided to do a tour with Look at Egypt because we couldn't find enough info online about traveling in Egypt after/during Covid. They custom made our tour, included Alexandria for one day and a trip to Abu Simbel. We had to cancel Sinai climb because we were cold to climb by night in January and the visibility was not good. All the guides were very professional and friendly. When they realized we wanted to learn about history and culture they went an extra mile to keep our interest. It was a very pleasant experience. The cruise was great, our ship was nice, nice service and polite staff. Dont miss Abu Simbel if you are in Aswan. Its an extra effort but magical experience. In Luxor, Karnak was very impressive. Aswan market was the nicest one, better than Kairo and Luxor. When in Kairo, dont miss the Pyramides and Tutankhamun treasure (check where it is because the Museum is moving). We were demanding and the agency people were very good in their response. Will recommend to friends.
