From start to finish friendly and well run. Ride out was a little rough, take sea sickness tab's is my thoughts if do again. Island tour fascinating.. cool adapted wildlife. Glass bottomed boat showed healthy coral and fish and 3 kinds of turtles plus rays. Snorkling superb. I would do again in a heartbeat..plus great lunch and am/pm teas and friendly team

Firstly the boat was a catamaran. We arrived at the office at 0420 am for check in. We were asked to fill in medical forms including whether we suffered from seasickness. (No idea why they asked that question as it didn’t prompt any action) We left the harbour at 0510 am heading for the bar which is the gateway to the ocean. The captain informed us that navigating the bar could be tricky as the currents could be weird, once cleared though, things should settle down a bit in the open water and there would be a safety briefing (possibly too late). Things didn’t settle down, they got worse and worse, it was horrendous. After no time at all everyone around us was being sick, the crew were handing out sick bags and collecting them back up in a well practiced routine. After an hour of torment one passenger asked how much longer to go and was told two and half hours, a childish joke not appreciated by people suffering. Eventually we arrived at the island and transferred to the glass bottom boat, we saw a bit of fuzzy brownish looking mass which we were told was coral, a couple of static turtles and some fish but nothing you wouldn’t see in a live aquarium store. We then had a short walk on the island, again nothing remarkable, in a loop through some trees, looking at Shearwater birds on the ground. You can see these birds on Muttonbird Island for nothing. The guide informed us that coral was scooped up in the war to make into gunpowder which isn’t true and didn’t tell anything about the other islands nearby. We went back to the catamaran where I had a go at snorkelling. The equipment was good and although it was my first time I took to it, I only saw the sea bed and when I lifted my head I realised I’d been blown much further off course than was comfortable,. I had to swim hard against the wind and waves to get back and was relieved that I made it. We’d been briefed not to go too close to the reef as it was very sharp and would cut you, so I didn’t see any coral reef. Quite a few of the other tourists said the same. The food consisted of wraps, and crackers and cheese, I didn’t have any as I hadn’t recovered from feeing ill. We set off back to the marina, the ride was more bearable but only in the context of comparing it with the horrendous outward journey. 1) there was no mention of the ride being very rough with a high likelihood of seasickness until after payment had been made. 2) post payment there was a warning about rough sea and seasickness but in our case too late to get to a pharmacy for anti sickness medication. 3) pre payment, there was a condition that if the trip was cancelled within 48 hours there would be no refund and a 100% cancellation fee would also be charged. Despite the recommendation on the seasickness post payment email there was no facility to obtain over the counter travel sickness at check in. Speaking to locals and restaurant workers after the trip it became apparent that all the trips on that catamaran resulted in high numbers of people being seriously sick, it was well known occurrence and not a one off. I could not recommend anything about the trip, the catamaran journey was horrendous, the glass bottom boat uninspiring, the short walk on the island unremarkable and the snorkelling a waste of effort against the wind and waves. A very expensive ordeal to be avoided even if you taken medication.

Apart from the early start this day (4.30am) which we will blame on the moon & tides, this was a fantastic trip. The captain & all of the crew were very friendly, knowledgeable & approachable. It was quite rough on the way out & a number of people saw their breakfast again but the crew dealt with it sympathetically & without fuss. Safety was paramount & we were constantly reminded from the moment we stepped aboard. While snorkeling there were 3 crew constantly in attendance. I would recommend this to anybody who asks. Thank you all for helping me cross this off my bucket list. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.

We travelled with 1770reef to Lady Musgrave in April, 2024, after our original tour date was cancelled due to weather conditions. We started very early and went through a pretty rough ocean but the cru did their best to prepare us. It was well worth it! The Lady Musgrave is not really an island but a coral cave. The tour on the island was amazing, as well the schnorkeling and the glass bottom boat! First time we managed to see see turtles even though we visited the Reef a couple of times before. The way back was so much more comfortable. The food could have been a bit better, basically cold sandwiches only but hey, who's there for the food!

Despite the 4.30am start this trip was fantastic. All staff witty yet professional, very helpful and had a great work ethic. The trip over to Lady Musgrave was quite bumpy so do as staff suggest and take something for sea sickness the night before and the morning of the trip. Skip was amazing with his knowledge of the reef and tried very hard to find turtles for us. The glass bottomed boat was great and you go for a guided walk across the island. I snorkelled for about 40 minutes and saw lovely fish and corals and a turtle. Food was simple but plentiful. Congratulations 1770Reef for a wonderful experience. I will be back.
