The first known name of the city in history is Coracesium. In the 4th century BC, it was under the invasion of the Persians. Later, it became a haven for pirates. In 139 BC, the city was invaded by the Seleucid Empire. During the reign of Alaaddin Keykubat, the city experienced its most prosperous days. The current castle, shipyard, and many of the still-standing structures date back to that period. We will see all the details as a view.

The shipyard, symbolizing the Seljuks' encounter with the Mediterranean, was built in 1227. Alanya Shipyard is the first shipyard of the Seljuks in the Mediterranean. The chosen location for the shipyard was planned to maximize daylight. We will walk over the walls of the Shipyard to see all the details.

The octagonal planned structure, which is the symbol of the city, is a 13th-century Seljuk masterpiece. The tower was built to protect the harbor and shipyard from attacks from the sea and was used for military purposes for centuries. We'll see all the details right below.

Descending until the Hellenistic period, the remaining historical texture that has survived to the present day is from the 13th-century Seljuk era. The castle was built by Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat, who captured the city and rebuilt it in 1221. Alanya Castle has witnessed uninterrupted settlement throughout history and is one of the best-preserved medieval castles among hundreds of castles adorning Anatolia.
