Overview

The Mysore Silk tour from Bangalore takes us back to 1792 when the story of Mysore Silk commences with setting up of silk worm breeding stations by Tipu Sultan. In 1912 Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV sets up the Mysore Silk Weaving factory to kick start the industrial production of Mysore Silk. We will visit Asia’s largest silk cocoon auction market, the Mysore Silk weaving factory, the Mysore Palace and an ancient bazaar.

We will head to Ramnagaram, a small town located 50 KMs from Bangalore.
The year was 1780 when Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore, received Silk as a gift from an ambassador of the Qing dynasty in China. Fascinated by this magical fabric, Tipu sent emissaries to Bengal and China to find out more and eventually sets up 22 Silk Breeding stations which kick off the Mysore Silk revolution.
Ramnagaram is famous today for its silk industry and receives 50 tons of silk cocoons every day making it Asia’s largest silk cocoon market. We will visit the Government Silk Cocoon Market and if lucky we can even witness an auction!

We will visit the factory showroom to see an amazing collection of Silk Sarees which is the finished product from the Mysore Silk Weaving factory.Silk Sarees are a cultural icon in South India. Ranging in length from 6-9 yards, these Sarees are worn by women during auspicious occasions like a wedding or a birthday.

I had the best day excursion ever! I had the distinct pleasure of spending the day with Shekar and Mohan! I wanted to learn about the culture and history of the greater Bangalore area and Shekar and Mohan went out of their way to customize an experience just for me! We saw how silk is not only created, but also created into beautiful cloth. We saw how handmade wooden toys were made. And then went to Mysore Palace and the local market. If you are looking for an experience that is truly customizable and not just a passenger who has no say in their travel, do yourself a favor and book immediately! I would give this a ten ⭐️ review if that were possible. I’m already planning that on my next trip to Bangalore I’ll book another experience!

Fabulous day out. I had one day free while travelling to Bangalore for work and was keen to get a true India experience and this didn’t disappoint. My guide Diwakar was fantastic! Kind, knowledgeable and fun. My highlight was the market tour, something I wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing without a guide. Diwakar really went above and beyond to ensure I was having a great day, ample water and bathroom stops, delicious food and even helped me negotiate the purchase of some Bangles. He was also a fantastic photographer- I got some of the best photos of my trip on this tour.
