My husband and I went on a half-day (4hr) tour with Tom in April 2024–even better that we went off-season. Tom picked us up from the train station and drove us to many historic sites providing insightful and entertaining commentary. Despite wintery weather, Tom had umbrellas and we got out of his car and explored the grounds. His use of tablet showing historic pictures was very helpful, especially before/after pics. Tom’s knowledge and passion was second to none. My husband loved the tunnels and bunkers, mostly because of Tom’s commentary. We will definitely reach out to Tom before booking any future tours!

I can honestly say that this was, far and away, the best tour we’ve ever completed! Tom is a treasure trove of information, and took us at our leisure to all of the places we wanted to go - and a lot that we didn’t even know about. We went in the late winter and didn’t realize that the Eagle’s nest is closed until sometime in May. We almost canceled and then thought maybe we will go see the actual ‘nest’ another time. However, what I learned from Tom is that the Eagles nest site is actually a minor ‘player’ in the decisions that were made by Hitler during his reign. Instead, we went to Hitler’s home site (now largely destroyed) where all of the major decisions were made. There were only a few other tourists there at the time and we had Tom all to ourselves for nearly an hour. We visited the bunkers, other high ranking Nazi Officers’ houses, and numerous other relevant WWII sites. Tom’s narration was perfect for us to learn about this important time in world history. At the end of the day, we decided that we absolutely got the best of all worlds, and don’t need to visit the actual ‘nest’. By all means, don’t let the winter closure of the site deter you - Tom more than makes up for the closure of the site. Fantastic tour, you won’t be disappointed!!!!

On the subject of WWII history, my husband would consider himself well read, but we completely underestimated the level of WWII history that exists in and around Berchtesgaden. This area of Germany is far more than Hitler’s Eagles Nest and is in fact a significant piece of the WWII Nazi leadership story. So it really did not matter that we went in March when the actual Eagles Nest was still closed. Do not be put off. Our guide, Tom Lewis has spent many years immersing himself in the history of this infamous place and through his thorough research and incredible network of contacts, he is able to guide you through the many fascinating locations in and around Berchtesgaden. My husband has enjoyed many WWII historical tours across Europe and parts of Asia and appreciates guides who know their stuff and who have lots of photographic material to help bring the story to life. In this regard, he said that Tom is definitely one of the best guides he has experienced. So much of this dark period in history is hiding in plain sight and with Tom’s help we were able to experience and understand the significance of Berchtesgaden and its importance to Hitler and the Nazi high command. If you are fascinated by WWII history then this is a must-see experience at any time of year.

Tom was EXCELLENT. We hesitated because it was winter time and the actual Eagles Nest Structure was closed for the season, but we were so pleasantly surprised. During our tour we learned that Hitler only visited that building less than 15 times and his true decision making and a large amount of time spent was at Berghof. We were able to see so much more. My husband who is quite a history buff, was taught so many new facts. Tom has dedicated his life's passion to this topic and you can really see it with every question answered. He was kind, funny and accommodating. The take away from this review is that if you are visiting in the winter time and are hesitant because the Eagles Nest is closed, please still book this tour. The Eagles Nest was not as important as everyone makes it to be. Berghof was and Tom will make you feel like money well spent with so many other facts and features he points out during this tour! Hope to see you in the summer Tom! From New York

Tom was fantastic and extremely knowledgable! We had the best tour and has been the highlight of our trip so far. Tom is a true historian and dispelled many of our misconceptions and stories we had heard. He took us through the bunkers in the new documentation center that opened as well as showed us around the mountain, the remains of Hitler’s residence and the Eagle’s Nest. If you are considering taking this tour, go ahead and book it!!
