Day 2: Kuranda Day Tour

Stop At: Kuranda Scenic Railway, Kuranda QLD 4881, Australia
The Kuranda Scenic Railway is a tourist railway service that operates along the heritage-listed Cairns-to-Kuranda railway line. Constructed in 1891, the line runs from Cairns, Queensland, over the Great Dividing Range to the town of Kuranda on the Atherton Tableland. Along the way, the route passes through the Macalister Range, as well as the suburbs of Stratford, Freshwater and Redlynch. Along the way, the train also stops at a lookout, which provides views of Barron Falls.

The railway line is 37 km (23 mi) in length.[2] It is still used for some freight services and other passenger services, including The Savannahlander.

Construction of the railway began in 1886,The railway was completed as far as Kuranda by 1891. Passenger services began operations on 25 June 1891.

Many people died during the construction of the numerous tunnels and bridges of the line. 15 hand-made tunnels and 37 bridges were built to climb from sea level to 328 metres (1,076 ft).

Nestled in beautiful tropical rainforest, this bustling market is home to a diverse array of stalls, stocking a selection of local art, craft and locally sourced produce.

It’s the place for shoppers to stroll around at their leisure, exploring all of the stalls and enjoying the colourful characters and ambience. Stop for coffee or a meal, enjoy an ice-cream and make sure you visit the iconic wildlife attractions which are located within the markets.

Situated in the Kuranda Heritage Markets, the wildlife park is home to an amazing array of Australian animals, including wallabies, wombats, quokkas, gliders and freshwater crocodiles. What we lack in size, we make up for in cuteness.

The Aussie Bush Collection features a fascinating combination of marsupials and reptiles, all living in harmony together. See the Long-nosed Potoroos along with Bearded Dragons and Blue Tongue Lizards.

Kuranda Koala Gardens has the only nocturnal exhibit in our Tableland region, giving visitors the opportunity to see up close some night-loving marsupials like the Greater Bilby, Northern Bettong and the rare Mahogany Glider.

Day 3: Rainforest & Cape Tribulation Tour

Immerse yourself deep into the rainforest by taking a trip on our world-renowned wildlife experience cruise. During your 60 – 90 minute journey, you will slowly glide along the Daintree River while one of our local guides shares their knowledge about the unique tropical ecosystem. Along the way, you will also have the chance to see native wildlife such as Estuarine Crocodiles in their natural habitat.

The Daintree River is a river that rises in the Daintree Rainforest near Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland, Australia. The river is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) northwest of Cairns in the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Wet Tropics of Queensland. The area is now primarily a tourist attraction.
The river rises on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range within the Daintree National Park below Kalkajaka at an elevation of 1,270 metres (4,170 ft) AHD . The river flows in highly meandering course generally north, then east, then south and then east, through the rainforest where the water is fresh. At this convergence point, an abundance of wildlife congregate, particularly fish. The river is joined by two minor tributaries before flowing through the Cairns Marine Park through thick mangrove swamps where the water is highly saline; and then empties into the Coral Sea, north of Wonga Beach.

Established in 1993, the Daintree Ice Cream Company became a highlight for visitors to the region. This was thanks to the creative vision and pioneering spirit shown by original owner Tracey Brady.

Surrounded by jungle, with no mains power, no town water and barely even a road, the undertaking was not for the faint-hearted.

Despite the obstacles, Tracey grew this humble little business into an iconic must-see destination in the Daintree Rainforest.

We had an amazing time in Cairns. Our planning was very last minute but Jude really helped us with all our bookings . The bookings were managed very well and in 3 days we were able to cover Kuranda, Great Barrier Reef and daintree rainforest Everything was very well managed .
