Discover the true essence of the Franschhoek Valley – picturesque vineyards, breathtaking scenery, warm hospitality and fine wines. Experience a unique and leisurely journey through the rolling vineyards of South African wine country on the Franschhoek Wine Tram. You will travel in an open-side tram and open-air tram-bus stopping in at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. Enjoy two wine tastings, and feel free to purchase any other food and beverages you like. Your storytelling guide will also take you on a tour through Franschhoek village, sharing with you the fascinating history of the French Huguenots. You then visit Babylonstoren, a historic Cape Dutch farm dating back to 1692, boasting one of the best preserved farmyards in the Cape. Our driver, Ernesto, was the best part of the tour. I give him 5 stars! Due the the weather and the limitations of the wine tram due to recent flooding, he truly adapted the experience to our interests. He actually ended up taking us to a brewery and to the last prison where Nelson Mandela was released. The wine tours are for people truly interested in wine. The tram part is kind of pointless if you can get a driver to take you around instead. With the tram, you are very restricted by their timing. If you do not get to the bus within an hour, you have to stay at that winery for another hour. Honestly, you can find a driver/tour guide in Cape Town for a better price with more flexibility.

The staff is super helpful. Try to buy your ticket before getting there for they really stick to their schedules. The vineyards are beautiful. Definitely a MUST. Dedicate a good half a day at least.

Our curated wine experience was incredible. Our tour guide Roger ensured we learnt at each farm, tasted the best wines at each farm and walked away feeling amazing. It was the best experience, and Roger was a wonderful host. We are very glad to have had Roger as our guide. He ensured we received the best wines at each farm, and assisted us with choosing our favorites from each farm to purchase. Thank you Roger for the most fantastic day, despite the rain.
