Overview

7 hours over three days, consisting of 70% practical and 30% theory.

Shaker has offered barista training from our Cape Town and Johannesburg schools since 2010. We work in partnership with Cape Town Barista School, Johannesburg Barista School, and Michu Coffee to bring our students all there is to know about great-tasting coffee. Students get the benefit of years of expertise from our award-winning baristas refined into our short courses. Our team are on hand both during your course and afterwards, to offer you advice on a career in coffee. You will always be part of the Shaker and Barista School family.

This is our top end industry course for people who want to do this as a profession, are opening their own shop, or just want to upgrade their skills to a completion championship level.

Our instructors cover everything in great detail and include:
-coffee history & production
-different coffee varieties
-coffee station setup & breakdown
-grinder setup
-perfect extraction
-coffee tasting / cupping
-popular coffee beverage preparation
-latte art

You will learn everything from how to blend your own variety of bean blends, advanced latte art, to costing your coffee beverages for your own venue. The examination at the end of the course is based on the National Barista Championship rules.

An introduction to the art of the Barista for anyone considering a career in coffee, who works in a restaurant and/or bar and wants to learn to pour the perfect cup. This is an ideal bolt onto the end of your IBC course as it takes place on the Saturday following each course. Do you know what the perfect cup tastes like?

This course will give you all the information you need to get started, but you will only become a true Barista after many many hours of coffee making.
