Fatima took us on a nice ride to meet a Berber family who lived in the Rif mountains near Chefchaouen. After tea with cookies, we were taken through the steps in making pottery - getting the clay from the ground, crushing it into a powder, adding water to make the ‘dough,’ shaping and assembling a piece of pottery, decorating a finished product. You do not end up with a piece that you can take with you since the actual process from start to finish takes days; however, you have a good understanding of what Berber’s do to make their pottery. After that learning, we had a wonderful lunch of soup, chicken tajine and cookies for desert - it was wonderful!! Fatima then drove us back to Chefchaouen through the wonderful scenery of the Rif mountains. It ended a brilliant experience.

This experience hands down was the most special experience ever, you cannot miss it if you go to Chefchaouen. Our guide Fatima was so great, she grew up in Chefchaouen and wanted to provide an authentic and unique experience. We got to make our own pottery and learn from wonderful indigenous berber people, who so graciously hosted us. We got to experience the whole process from start to finish, and capped it off with a home cooked meal. Pottery is part of their long tradition and I felt so grateful to experience and learn their craft. This will take about 3.5 hours of your day (half of that time is travel, which is included). Will remember this experience forever!

Absolutely amazing experience with Fatima and a wonderful Berber family. Fatima arrived early and greeted us. She drove us to a remote home in the mountains to spend the day with a Berber family learning the art of pottery making from start to finish. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the kindest husband and wife! They made and served us a traditional breakfast with fresh olive oil. We then walked to the place where they obtain the rock and clay for the pottery. They showed us how they smash and sift the rocks to make a powder that mixes with water. We then were taught to form the clay and pots. We painted pots that had already been fired in the oven and then had a traditional delicious lunch made fresh by our host family. We spent time getting to know the family while we sipped delicious mint tea. Fatima translated beautifully and was an outstanding guide and host. The family was so kind and welcoming. We had an absolutely amazing experience. I HIGHLY recommend this activity to really get to know a local family and learn the lost art of pottery making in the traditional Berber way. This is an experience we won’t soon forget. I would give this activity 10 stars if I could! Outstanding in every way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an incredible experience! Our guide arrived early to take us to the car. She drove us up the mountain to a traditional Berber family’s home, where we spent the day learning how they make pottery from start to finish. We made our own pots and were also able to paint with the colors they make from nature. We were served a delicious traditional breakfast and lunch and got to spend real quality time with our host family and our guide, Fatima. Fatima translated so beautifully it felt as if we were communicating directly with the family. This was such an incredible experience for all of us and something we will never forget. Do yourself a favor, get off the beaten tourist path and book this experience with Fatima; you will truly not regret it.
