Overview

Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you'll generally find one of them out flying most days.

On our Ultimate Discovery flight you'll see the three "big" glaciers. You'll fly over the Franz Josef, Fox & Tasman Glaciers and fly into the Southern Alps to see Mount Cook and enjoy the included 10-15 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 45 minutes.

Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.

  • Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.
  • Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 12 travelers
  • Confirmation will be received within 48 hours of booking, subject to availability

Amazing views, and a glacier landing at high elevation was special. The team was highly professional, thorough in safety protocols, and made the experience fun and memorable. Definitely give this team your business and you will be glad you did!

We were blessed with a clear sunny day and the flight in helicopter was my first. There 6 passengers on flight and it was a squash to have 4 in back row. This meant was difficult to rotate to take pictures especially if you were in the middle 2 seats. The views of the 3 glaciers and mountains were stunning nature in the raw! We landed on a plateaux between several mountain ridges and the ice was slushy as it melted. We took lots of pictures and the trip will be a wonderful memory of our trip.

One of the best experiences that I have ever had. I would definately recommend this as a must do when visiting New Zealand. We actually booked for a 2.15pm flight but arrived earlier and was put on the 12.15pm flight. They run a very good operation and making sure safety is a priority. The views are spectacular and was so glad we did this….Highly recommend..
