The Palace of the Forgotten is a 16th century construction, today completely restored.
This permanent exhibition presents a selection of instruments of torture and capital punishment, corresponding to those most used by the different inquisitorial courts, both ecclesiastical and civil, throughout Europe. It is important to highlight that the Spanish ecclesiastical courts were sparing in the use of instruments of torture, with the garrucha, the guitar and the rack being the most used. However, civil courts, both in Spain and in the rest of Europe, are particularly cruel towards certain groups that various societies considered dangerous for coexistence, and it is from here that most of the exposed machines.
