Overview

Experience the Grand Canyon from a biblical creation perspective with Canyon Ministries.

Meeting inside the park at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center flag pole about four hours before the sun sets, the Sunset Rim Tour visits the very best locations of the South Rim’s east side. Along Desert View Drive, you will ride comfortably in our tour vehicle to each amazing overlook and vista.

Once we arrive at each spot on the tour, we will hop off the vehicle for incredible views, exploration, and exciting teaching tied into everything we’re seeing.

During the tour, your guide will spend time sharing about the geology, plants, animals, and people history of the canyon—and of course, the biblical message of Creation and the Flood as recorded in the book of Genesis. At the end of the tour, we will close out the day with the One who made it as the sun sets far to the west over the rim.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Grand Canyon South Rim, Highway 64, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ 86023

Our biblical creation tours of the Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim include multiple stops to the very best overlooks with tons of insightful teaching throughout the day. The order below is a "typical" route, focusing on the park's east side along Desert View Drive.

Due to changing weather, seasons, or the people flow in the park that day, we may have alternate stops other than what we provide below. Our tours are not "scripted", so guides have the freedom and flexibility to respond to changes in the park as well as your own individual group dynamic.

Our tour does not include entry fee into the Grand Canyon National Park, which you may pay at the gate or use a National Park Pass. Entry is good for 7 days of unlimited use.

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Grand Canyon Visitor Center South Rim, S Entrance Rd about 2 mi east of El Tovar Hotel, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Our tour meets at the flag pole just outside the Grand Canyon Visitor Center building INSIDE the park at tour start time.

Plan extra arrival time during spring and summer. Holidays and spring break may have lines over an hour long getting into the park. We suggest you arrive early and enjoy views at the Grand Canyon Village or Mather Point or a Rim Trail walk before joining our tour.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Pipe Creek Vista, E Rim Dr Grand Canyon Village, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ 86023

Starting near the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, our first stop provides you with an introduction to the Grand Canyon and its geology.

We will lay the foundation for the rest of the tour regarding the biblical events of the Flood found in Genesis and the significance of what we'll be exploring throughout our tour.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Grandview Point, South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Learn about the exciting Wild West people history at Grandview Point, with talks on mining both copper and tourist pockets in the early days of the Grand Canyon National Park development.

Enjoy wide vistas and the distant Colorado River as we talk about the significance of the canyon and whether that river has the power to cut and remove this material.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Lipan Point, East Rim Drive, a few miles west of Desert View, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

While taking in fantastic river views, including one of the canyon's largest rapids, we will talk about the Native American Ancestral Puebloans who lived far below on the Unkar Delta.

At Lipan Point, we will also showcase the geological Great Unconformity, Cambrian Explosion, and the Tapeats Sandstone—all of which provide fantastic observable evidence for a global Flood.

Learn about the mechanisms of the Flood from its onset, and how we believe the sedimentary rock layers were deposited through this year-long destructive event of biblical proportions!

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Navajo Point, Desert View Dr, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ 86023

A lot of water, in a little bit of time. Learn about the carving of the Grand Canyon by what we call the "lake spillover" or "breached dam" model, something first proposed in geology all the way back in the 1800s and still held by both creation and some secular geologists alike today.

See beyond the Grand Canyon to the distant Vermillion and Echo Cliffs of the Marble Platform and southeast to parts of the Painted Desert. Learn about the nearby historic Desert View Watchtower, completed in 1932.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Moran Point, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023, USA

Concluding at one of the very best locations to watch the sun as it sets below the distant cliff walls to the west, close out the day with the One who made it.

Adequate time will be given to sit, relax, and enjoy this special time. Blankets are available, as is the comfort and warmth of the vehicle should we be in cooler weather.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Grand Canyon Visitor Center South Rim, S Entrance Rd about 2 mi east of El Tovar Hotel, Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Other than the mild discomfort of a chilly evening at sunset, which was breathtaking and truly glorious, the entire tour was very well planned, professionally administered, very informative with a very knowledgeable tour guide, and very inexpensive for the quality of this tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone, especially Christrian's, who would like to learn there is more to the creation of The Grand Canyon than taught by theoretical science. Discover what science has tried to prove, but hasn't thus far succeeded.

Nice small group tour. Clean van. Water and blankets provided. Luke, our guide, was very knowledgeable in geology and history. Had a good understanding of how biblical texts may relate to how the canyon was created.

The most memorable part of this experience was connecting the beauty and awe of the Canyon with the Biblical perspective. Thank you Luke for explaining so perfectly and also and giving us the opportunity to ask questions. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Grand Canyon. It was a wonderful time of worship and fellowship. Luke singing from the cliff at sunset was inspiring and we felt the presence of God so powerfully as we witnessed the splendor and glory of God. My husband who is a pastor worn down with ministry was revived during the tour. He got what he needed from this trip to continue in ministry.

We had a great time on our tour! Bob was an excellent guide. It was great to hear the biblical reason for the canyon being formed instead of the millions of years that we are supposed to believe

We had a wonderful experience and loved our tour director, Bob. He was very knowledgeable, had a fabulous grasp of his subject, and was super friendly. He obviously loves his job and it showed in his attention to details. We learned way more than we ever expected. He gave us lots of food for thought. I’d highly recommend this tour to my friends or family. Blessings.
