Our expectations for this tour were exceeded in every respect. The Old City is captivating. This is an active university city, vibrant with students, good restaurants, and interesting small shops. The old city was undamaged by WWII,other than a minor damage to the old bridge. The jewel is the ancient castle and its grounds which provide a sweeping view of the Necker River. Our guide was Henry Cottam. He is a rare blend of knowledge, flexibility and good humor with fastidious attention to our needs. We also toured down the Rhine River and far as the famous German Corner and a private guided tour of the only undamaged 11th century castle on the Rhine. Henry extended our tour to the edge of the Black Forest to the famous spa city of Baden Baden. Frankly, we felt like were were strolling in another era with a special type of tranquility and beauty. Henry also went the extra mile for us by ensuring that we caught our train to Paris, including helping us with our copious baggage to board the correct train. He is a rare guide.
