Overview

a friend in heidelberg is the name of my service. Many guests of mine told me that this describes extremely well what I have to offer.
The stops mentioned under "Itinerary" are possible destinations of our tour. I am more than happy to compose an individual tour, which is based entirely on your preferences and wishes.
I was not only born in the famous historical city of Heidelberg and know the area extremely well, but also lived and worked in the US and hence speak fluent English. If you wish, I can help you with the organization of your trip ahead of time.

Prior to embarking on a recent Royal Viking cruise down the Rhine River, we decided to book “A Friend in Heidelberg” to take our group of four on an individual trip from Speyer to Heidelberg and then on to Rudesheim where we re-connected with our boat. It was one of the best decisions we made during our two-week vacation. Manfred Pitz, the company owner and our driver, was all we could have asked for to get the most out of our Heidelberg venture. Punctual, professional and personal, he was extremely informative and knew all the ins-and-outs of Heidelberg as well as points of interest along the way. Manfred’s knowledge allowed us to be efficient with our time and learn a great deal about the history and culture of Germany in general and Heidelberg in particular. We covered a lot of ground, including a cool local spot where he joined us for lunch. Manfred speaks English fluently, has spent extensive time in the U.S. and seemed to be enjoying the day as much as we were, all positives in making it successful and memorable. Personally, he also assisted in making the following day equally noteworthy. I was interested in taking a second side trip to the Nurburgring F1 auto racing facility outside of Koblenz but had run into some challenges in regard to both transportation and what to expect at the venue. Hearing my frustration, he took an interest, made several phone calls when we were with him and ultimately cut through the language barrier to arrange not only a driver to take me and a friend to the Nurburgring but also reserve a ride with a professional driver around the circuit. It was a fantastic outing and one of the highlights of the trip which would not have happened without Manfred’s expertise and willingness to go above-and-beyond. I recommend “A Friend in Heidelberg” without reservation.

My husband and I took a day long tour of Heidelberg with Manfred in April 2024. In a word it was exceptional. Manfred is an incredibly pleasant and delightful. Is a lifelong Heidelberger. He certainly knows the area well in terms of present day, and in terms of history. In our particular case , I had roots in Heidelberg as a very young child. My memories were vague and mostly from photographs and family conversations from my parents, both of whom are no longer alive. Manfred took the initiative in time to investigate from the facts that I had available and old photographs to locate the home where my family lived when I was born. It was a very happy time for them, and to see this in person was incredibly powerful. In an unexpected twist, the son of the woman who cared for me during those years still lived in the house. Manfred contacted him and explained the history. This gentleman remembered my family and was gracious enough to extend an invitation to see the home and to meet with him . He had not seen me since he was in his early 20s and I was in an infant carriage. I cannot find the words to adequately convey how incredibly precious this opportunity was. For . Manfred to take the initiative to do this is a testament to his passion for people, and for his profession. The remainder of the day was filled with much laughter and visiting many beautiful sites in the city. we were guided to restaurants where the local scene and served delicious food with broad smiles, and hospitality. We even had the opportunity to walk with his beautiful dog Ronja. As dog lovers ourselves, this was a special treat. Manfred was all about personalizing the experience and making it a day to remember. I cannot say enough about this wonderful day that Manfred gave to us. The personal attention to detail. His gracious hospitality was precious. I would recommend Manfred whole-heartedly to anyone looking for this specialized and very personal tour experience. He is simply the best.

Manfred is an amazing, extremely knowledgeable (and fun) guide who helped us plan our ideal visit to Heidelberg. From our Viking Riverboat, he picked us up in Speyer and delivered us directly to our boat in Rudesheim that evening after our tour...which was the best, most informative tour of the Castle and City! We enjoyed a great lunch at his favorite restaurant. Manfred went 'above and 'beyond' to make our day the very best...we are so lucky to have found him!!!💯

Manfred was on time, courteous, friendly and very professional. His car is clean and very comfortable. He kept good communication with us before our pick-up. He really knows Heidelberg and took us to all the great spots including a fabulous German lunch. He definitely knows the cruise lines (we were on Viking) and their schedules which was extremely helpful and he even helped my husband figure out a side trip to Nurburgring Green Raceway. He went above and beyond. Definitely 5 stars!!!!

For anyone seeking an unforgettable private tour experience in Heidelberg, look no further than Manfred! My recent exploration of this charming German city was nothing short of exceptional, thanks entirely to Manfred's expertise and passion. Manfred isn't just a tour guide; he's a true Heidelberg insider. His deep understanding of the city's history and hidden corners made every step of our tour engaging. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply seeking a picturesque stroll, Manfred tailors the tour to your interests. He possesses an impressive knowledge of the city's must-see sights, like the majestic Heidelberg Castle and the breathtaking Neckar River, but also knows the off-the-beaten-path gems that add a unique touch. Manfred's warmth and genuine love for Heidelberg make the tour truly special. He fosters a friendly atmosphere, happy to answer questions and cater to your pace. It felt more like exploring the city with a knowledgeable friend than a formal tour.
