Day 1: Amazing Jeju Island UNESCO

Hamdeok Beach is also called ‘Hamdeok Seoubong Beach’ because of the oreum (Seoubong Peak) that stands right next to the beach.

It is estimated that Manjanggul Cave was formed about 100,000 to 300,000 years ago, and Jeju Island was formed about 1.8 million years ago. Manjanggul Cave is a lava tube with a total length of about 7.4 km and partially has a multi-layered structure. It was initially connected to nearby Gimnyeongsa Cave, Field Cave, and Gaeu Jet Cave, but it is believed to have been separated as the ceiling collapsed. The main passage of Manjanggul Cave is 18m wide and 23m high, making it one of the largest lava caves in the world. There are many lava tubes around the world, but lava tubes like Manjanggul, which were formed hundreds of thousands of years ago and have well-preserved internal shapes and topography, are rare and have great academic and conservation value.

Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is a wide crater with a height of 180m and an area of 2.64㎢. Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is the most popular tourist attraction in Jeju Island after Hallasan Mountain. Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, one of the symbols of Jeju Island, was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 2002, listed as a World Natural Heritage in 2007, and certified as a Global Geopark in 2010, making it the only place in the world to have won three UNESCO natural science awards.
From the observatory, you can see Udo Island, the haenyeo material performance hall, the boat yard, and the Umutgae Coast, so it boasts a wonderful view no matter where you put it. Seongsan Ilchulbong has many unusually shaped rocks, and you can also see Deunggyeongdol Rock, which is said to have a legend that Seolmundae grandmother, who worked hard to carry soil, put a lamp on top of the rock while sewing a frayed skirt. There are also hiking trails so that you can see this legendary area up close.

Unlike other coasts in Jeju, it is also unique that it is full of red volcanic clusters. When the waves come in, the oddly shaped rocks that are submerged in the water are a gift from nature. Rapeseed flowers in spring and silver grass in autumn are in full bloom here. It is also famous for its beautiful coastal scenery where you can see Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. It is well known as a regular filming location for dramas that once swept the country, such as Eyes of Dawn and All In.
Jeju Seopjikoji is a place where the water is so clear and the scenery is so beautiful that there is a legend that a fairy descended from the sky took a bath. From a scientific point of view, it is also a great place to learn about nature by seeing the crater where magma erupted during a volcanic eruption. With this knowledge in mind, you can experience Seopjikoji more abundantly.

Sangumburi Crater is about 100m deep and over 600m in diameter. The outer circumference is 2,067 m, the inner circumference is 756 m, and the crater forming a conical cliff with a height of 100 to 146 m is about 8,000 pyeong in floor area alone. The ground around the crater is flat with a height of 400 m, and there is only a hill with a maximum height of 438 m to the south of the crater.

Day 2: wonderful places in the west and south of Jeju Island
Stop At: Eoseungsaengak, Jeju Island South Korea
Eoseungsaengak is a favorite oreum for visitors who want to climb lightly. The natural ecology is well preserved and is used as a nature learning trail.

This mysterious road or goblin road is a strange place where you park your car on a downhill road, but the car that should go down does not go down, but instead steps back uphill. In fact, this is because the side where you can see the uphill road is downhill with a slope of about 3 degrees, so it looks like it is going up due to a simple optical illusion. Due to this phenomenon, word of mouth has become a tourist attraction, and more and more people are visiting. Various safety facilities are currently being added to prevent accidents caused by this, and a tourist park is expected to be created soon starting from the Dokkaebi Road.

Seogwipo Daily Olle Market’ is a traditional market located in the center of Seogwipo City, and a market that has become an indispensable course in Jeju travel. It is the largest and oldest permanent market in Seogwipo-si, and it is a place that plays a big role in revitalizing the economy by forming a city with Jeju residents and tourists 365 days a year.
Omegi rice cakes, tangerines, hallabongs, jade fish, silver cutlassfish, and black pork, which are specialties of Jeju, can be found.

Stop At: Jeongbang Waterfall, Donghong-dong, Seogwipo, Jeju Island South Korea
Jeongbang Waterfall is known as one of the three major waterfalls in Jeju Island along with Cheonjeyeon Waterfall and Cheonjiyeon Waterfall. It is 23m high, 8m wide and 5m deep, and it is the only waterfall in Korea that falls directly from the land to the sea. It is a 15-minute bus ride from downtown Seogwipo. After purchasing a ticket at the ticket office at the entrance and descending the stairs with pine trees for about 5 minutes, you can see Jeongbang Falls, which turns into the color of the Milky Way in the sunlight. You can hear the cool sound of the waterfall from a far, and you can also see vertical rock walls with well-developed columnar joints on both sides of the waterfall. The appearance of Jeongbang Waterfall, which descends from Hallasan Mountain and passes through downtown Seogwipo and trembles in white in front of the sea.

Jeju Seogwipo Oedolgae is a stone pillar about 20m in height and 7-10m in width created by the erosion of waves in the lava field erupted from a volcanic eruption. The name Oedolgae comes from the fact that a rock stands alone in the sea. Oedolgae was designated as Scenic Beauty No. 79 in 2011 along with Sanbangsan Mountain (Scenic Spot No. 77) and Soesokkak (Scenic Spot No. 78). Oedolgae is also called 'General Rock' and 'Grandma Rock', and each has a legend related to its name.
After meeting Oedolgae, we leisurely walked along the beautifully designed promenade to Seonnyeotang on Hwanguji Coast. And I looked at Saeseom Island and Saeyeongyo Island, which I had walked the night before, from afar.
