Overview

You get to visit a local's family home just 20 minutes away from the city. Start your day with a traditional Malaysian breakfast before cooking.

Unlike other cooking classes, you get to cook in a typical Malaysian kitchen. The class will have maximum of 6 people, so you get full attention from your teacher.

Before cooking, you will visit a garden with over 50 species of edible plants. You will cook from scratch 5 recipes and receive a recipe booklet.

Then have lunch and chit-chat with a local family.

Learn how to cook your favourite Malaysian street food at a friendly neighbourhood in KL just 20 minutes away from the city. Sara Khong, a professional cook and author of four Malaysian cookbooks, welcomes you to her family home to make Malaysian cuisine together.

Start your morning with a glass of flower tea before exploring our organic edible garden with over 50 herbs, spices, and flowers used in everyday cooking. See, touch, smell, and taste a variety of local plants like turmeric and curry leaves.

You will make, hands-on, five Malaysian food of your choice in a real Malaysian kitchen. You will also get a recipe booklet so that you can cook the dishes for your family and friends back home.

Lastly, enjoy a delicious meal together and chit-chat with a local family about Malaysian food, culture, and lifestyle.

    It was fun and amazing hands-on experience. I was joined with a couple from Poland with their daughter. We get to make Four Angled bean salad, Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rendang, Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea), Ondeh-Ondeh. The cooking class was held at Sara’s mother house. Her mother was friendly and welcomes all visitors with opened arms. All the ingredients were prepared and ready in the kitchen. We just do the cutting, slicing, cooking and finally eat our self-made delicious meal. Sara provides easy cooking guides, gives lots of tips how to get good ingredients, and instructions how to cook. At the end of the day, not only you leave with a filled stomach, and comes with a cooking booklet with step-by-step instructions.

    My wife and I really enjoyed learning about and preparing examples of Malaysian cuisine with Sara at her family home. Sara had everything well organized and was very friendly, encouraging, and patient while she guided us through the ingredient selection and preparation. An added benefit was learning about Malaysian family and food culture.

    It was so much fun cooking with Sarah and here mom and I especially liked that we where invited to cook in their actual family home and kitchen. It was hands on, practically from scratch so we walked away with not only a nice lunch of homemade Laksa and Yong tau fu but also the ability of cook these delicious treats at home for our family and friends. Thank you Sarah for a wonderful morning!

    I took this cooking class with a friend. Even though I had rarely cooked before, I was able to complete a wonderful dish with her kindness. It was an amazing experience to look around the garden in her house, listen to the instructions, and harvest some of the ingredients. While cooking, she also gave me explanations about the ingredients, which helped me understand. Sharing the dishes together allowed me to get to know about the different Malay cultures, and also got good information about tourism and restaurants. Unless you feel heavily burdened by the price of the cooking class, surely this will be one of the best experiences. (btw, my friend enjoyed her advice about durian ice cream :) )
