1) the location is very far from main Kyoto area. It took us more than 40mins in a cab and over $30 to get there or change 2 trains and even longer. 2) the place is an old photo shoot / kimono rental place. It’s very old so is interesting in built/ architecture. 3) they had a lot of kimonos to choose from. The owner helps you choose and dress. They are very helpful and kind. 4) Dressing in kimonos and taking pictures was fun. They take the pictures for you and then airdrop them. So that’s nice and convenient. 5) the tea ceremony itself left a lot to be desired. Trying the matcha in a ceremonial manner was interesting but he couldn’t explain too much about the history or significance of tea ceremonies or lot of detail about them Overall I feel like we spent over 4hours doing this, given a chance again I won’t spend all that time and money on it again.
The hosts were very knowledgeable and fun. At first, we were not so sure but then we were more than impressed with the whole experience.
We were dressed with their collection of beautiful designs kimono by the owners, performed the tea ceremony and explained it step by step. We had fun over all, the matcha tea was very good. The owners Masaya and wife were very accommodating and friendly.
We really enjoyed our experience. The owner and assistant very nice and friendly. Everything was very interesting
Beautiful kimonos. Individual care and attention. Wonderful tea ceremony- moving but not rigidly formal. Fantastic way to spend the afternoon.
