Overview

A guided shore dive just off the coast of Maui is the perfect introduction to scuba diving. You’ll see some of the island’s best coral reefs while practicing the basics of diving at your own pace with a small group of four people maximum, ensuring personalized attention from the guide. Choose from multiple lesson times when booking.

What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

After a fun and short lesson on how to scuba dive, we will do an actual scuba dive on a shallow coral reef where you can see coral fish and even turtles! This is for beginners, no prior scuba experience needed. Only basic swimming skills are required and being comfortable in the ocean. Please be sure to complete the waiver that will be sent to you after booking. When plannig your trip, know that flying within 18 hours of SCUBA is unsafe and therefore not permitted.

Our meetup location was communicated with enough time for us to plan to be there on time. Our instructor took the time to explain everything to us before we headed out. I had a hard time getting the hang of things (not the fault of the instructor) and she took the time to explain things and not make me feel stupid. I just wish we would have had more time! It was cool though to see some fish and coral.

There were 5 of us aged 14-53, all beginners. They paired us with 2 instructors. Some of us were a little nervous going in, but the instructors made us feel very comfortable and alway safe. We had a GREAT time. The instructors were very friendly and attentive, and the beach we dove at was deep enough but not too deep, and had a lot to see. We even saw a turtle up close.

I am an experienced AOW diver, but I was on vacation in Maui with my grandson and his friend so took the opportunity to take them on a Discover Scuba dive. Gu was the dive master and he did a great job with these 13 year old boys. They really connected with him and enjoyed the dive so much they are hooked and want to become certified when we return home. Can’t wait to take them on their first Scuba trip. My experience with New Horizons was absolutely wonderful and would highly recommend them. They answered all of my questions over the phone before our arrival and were very accomadating, letting me book a dive with the boys so I could take video. The staff is wonderful. You can’t go wrong with them.

Extended Horizons is a different dive outfit. They are very professional where safety, technique and the ecosystem are their priorities. My daughter ended up having an issue with her ears, and Gabi adjusted to accommodate all parties (safety is #1), she was very knowledgeable in the local ecology and I look forward to learning more about diving and practicing so I can come back and do one of their ecotours on Lanai’i. Thank you again!

This introductory lesson is the real deal! You will go scuba diving 28-30ft down, surrounded by giant green sea turtles, nurse sharks, eels and a variety of fish as you swim through the coral reef. I am so happy I was able to get up the nerve to participate in this adventure! Gu was very patient in calming my anxiety. I will never forget the experience! It is life changing. Thank you Gu!
