We drove seven hours from Fes to get there but it was worth it! We were the only ones there for the sunset dromedary ride and it was amazing! Wonderful guide. Beautiful scenery and the animals were mellow. Loved it!

This activity is clearly, and rightly so, is on many "bucket lists". I took the trip in January which is an off season. Even so, there were so many camels and riders that I was reminded of a rush hour in a big city. We arrived at the edge of Erg Chebbi to find numerous camels down on the ground awaiting us. With assistance I climbed aboard my camel. Then the "fun" began. As the camel got up, I wasn't sure whether I was going to tumble over his head or tail. Fortunately there was a very secure "T" bar attached to the saddle for me to hold on to. We then spent the next half hour traveling about a kilometer into the dunes. From the camel's rocking gait, it rapidly became clear why the camel is known as the "ship of the desert" We eventually stopped at the base of a dune. There we dismounted and scrambled up to its top. The camel guides brought up the blankets / rugs used to cover the camel saddles and laid them out on the sand for us to sit on. We spent the next hour taking pictures and enjoying each other's company. The guides would also take our cameras / smartphones down the west side of the dune and take both individual and group pictures. After sunset we scrambled down the dunes back to our camels. Using the blankets they had brought up, our guides pulled several seated ladies back down the dune. Then we remounted the camels and reversed our trip back to the starting point. I should say that the camel ride itself was not very comfortable. Fortunately it was also not very long. I am very glad I did not have to ride a camel across Africa as they did in "olden days". If you are in southeast Morocco GO. This activity is far superior to the typical tourist camel rides in and around cities. Even if the weather is less than ideal the trip is worth going.

Do not miss the camel ride at sunset with Merzouga Dunes. Experience Amazing Feeling during sunset. The atmosphere in the desert is unique. Highly reccommended.
