Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Duomo di Modena, Corso Duomo, 41121, Modena Italy

Modena cathedral is a Unesco Heritage of humanity since 1997. In Romanesque art, architecture and sculpture reached their highest expression in religious buildings, standing out for their powerful architectural structures and stone decorations that translated the complex spirituality of medieval man into images. The guide will explain both the exterior and the interior of the Cathedral.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Palazzo Comunale di Modena, Piazza Grande, 41100, Modena Italy

From its vantage point looking out onto Piazza Grande, the Palazzo Comunale is actually a series of annexed medieval buildings cloistered within an arcade in the early 1600s. Its unusual attractions depict key points in Modena’s history. First there is a bucket of local lore, plundered by the City of Bologna during the 1325 Battle of Zappolino. As a symbol of civic heroism, the bucket inspired Alessandro Tassoni’s celebrated mock-heroic epic poem, ‘La Secchia Rapita’ (‘The Stolen Bucket’). Inside the palace you'll visit some historical rooms.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Palazzo Ducale di Modena, Piazza Roma, 15, 41121 Modena MO, Italy

Rome architect Bartolomeo Avanzini designed the Palazzo Ducale, which was built from 1634 onwards. The home of the Este Court for more than two centuries, today it is the headquarters of the Italian Military Academy. This will be an external visit.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Torre Civica - Ghirlandina, P.za della Torre, 41121 Modena MO, Italy

A UNESCO-heritage site, along with the Cathedral it adjoins and the Piazza Grande it overlooks, the Ghirlandina (or Garland) Tower is so named because of the double twist of balustrades crowning it like a garland. Standing 87 metres (or 285 feet) high this symbol of Modena was completed by the Campionese Masters, who also worked on the later medieval modifications of the Cathedral itself. This will be an external visit.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Mercato Albinelli, Via Luigi Albinelli 13, 41121, Modena Italy

The Liberty-style market hall in Via Albinelli was created in 1931, to house the stalls that had always been set up around Piazza Grande. The traders of the Mercato Albinelli offer many typical products of Modena region, as well as certified goods.

We had a lovely guide who showed us through the town hall and cathedral Incredible knowledge about the art works, and pointed out the important pieces and talked about the artists The tour is very culturally oriented rather than a general introduction of what to do and see in Modena

We took this tour. There was only six of us very nice guide. Unfortunately what I expected to see was more of the city I didn’t get that opportunity. We spent about an hour in and around the Doma then we walked to the to squares, saw Pavarotti’s statue that’s not what I expected in a walking tour of the city I was very disappointed

From the initial email correspondence a year before our trip, Luca was very responsive and helpful. In fact, we had numerous emails back and forth to plan a wonderful private tour itinerary that would appeal to the 8 of us traveling together to celebrate my 60th birthday! He also provided private transportation during our days of exploring Parma, Modena and Bologna! We were based in Modena for 3 nights. We had private walking tours of all 3 locations, as well as private prosciutto factory tour and tasting lunch in an ancient stone cellar, parmigiana reggiano tour/tasting, balsamic vinegar tour and tasting and a market tour and pasta making class in Bologna! Luca also arranged 2 of our dinners that were both incredible local cuisine experiences! I would highly recommend Luca and Modenatur to anyone visiting the Emilia Romagna region!
