It was constructed in the 9th century by King Chanda of the Nikumbh dynasty, and it served as a water reservoir and a community gathering place. The stepwell is an architectural marvel consisting of 3,500 symmetrical steps arranged in a precise geometrical pattern, leading to a depth of over 100 feet.
