Overview

This is an interesting and off-beat tour of New Delhi and Old Delhi by students from Manzil, a non-profit that works in youth empowerment and learning. The tour uses the Delhi Metro, as well as two additional forms of 'green' transport that are popular with the common man in Delhi - the compressed natural gas (CNG) powered green auto-rickshaw, and the cycle-rickshaw. The tour provides income for the student-guides, and also helps to finance some programmes at Manzil.

The tour allows you to see many of the highlights of the city, have a bazaar walk through Old Delhi, experience rickshaw rides, check out the street food, get an introduction to various religions and cultures in India, and more importantly, it provides an opportunity to see Delhi through the eyes of young people who are full of optimism for the future. The students who do this tour love their city and it comes through during the tour. They are well-trained and knowledgeable about the places you visit on the tour.

What Can You Expect?

The tour covers both New Delhi and Old Delhi. It starts at Connaught Place, with an introduction to the history of Delhi, and a geographical orientation of the city. From Connaught Place, we take you by autorickshaw on an exploration of 'Lutyens Delhi' - the city of grand public spaces designed by the British, which is now called New Delhi. We drive through the Central Business District, seeing the markets and businesses there. We go to the Lutyens Bungalow Zone, Janpath, Rajpath, and visit the President's House, Parliament House, Secretariat and India Gate.

We recently had the very good fortune to work with Ranjeet at Delhi Magic to make arrangements for a two week tour/trip in the Golden Triangle and down south to Kerala. Included at part of our tour was a visit to Delhi's old city and had Pradeep show us around and we got to experience a little slice of the culture and energy that this wondering old city has. From the moment we were collected at Delhi airport to our departure from Cochin airport two weeks later, I must say that the trips, guides, drivers, knowledgeable & excellent local guides, various activities from visiting Forts, the majestic Taj Mahal, Pink City, Gardens, Tea Plantation trek & museum, hand punted canoe trip, Homestay's in some locations, local hotels and even a brilliant Houseboat stay in Kumarakom, to name a few highlights, it was just the right amount of adventure, culture, learning experience and met all our expectations. And even when we needed to adjust our plans at short notice, Ranjeet and the team were very considerate and assisting us without a problem. I relied on Magic tour for my first trip to India, we would have been 2 single women and therefore I felt more comfortable relying on a tour operator. My contact, Ranjeet, immediately made himself available to give suggestions on which were the most important venues to see considering the days available. The program was clear and met our needs. The tour ran flawlessly, all the people who collaborate with Magic tour were very professional and kind. Magic Tour has a truly great network of professionals who handle every aspect of the trip quickly and on time. Every slightest mishap was resolved in the blink of an eye with the utmost seriousness. What can I say, my opinion is really positive, they exceeded my expectations! I especially want to thank our driver, Mahipal, who has always had a lot of attention towards us, he didn't limit himself to accompanying us to the places but he also came to check that everything was fine and possibly intervened in case there was a need. I then thank the guides, Nhidi, Ashish and Abishek and obviously a special thank goes to Ranjeet, available 24/7 for any need. I have no doubt, if you want to travel peacefully, trust this tour operator!

This was an excellent tour group. They were on time, accommodating, friendly, knowledgeable... Admittedly I do not usually choose to hang out in New Delhi for long but this time we had a stay of several days so decided to make the most of it. Our guides went above and beyond, even arranging a bus for our group of 18 people (you can request this). They spoke English, too! We hit most of the major sites and felt safe eating and wandering around Old Delhi.

With the help of Ranjeet and his team we had a wonderful family holiday through India. Highlights were walking though the streets of Old Delhi with a young local guide, seeing all the amazing palaces and forts in Rajasthan with excellent guides , going on safari & seeing tigers and leopards and cruising through the backwaters on a houseboat in Kerala. Ranjeet and his team were very responsive & helpful & the whole experience was one we won’t forget.

The Delhi metro tour with our student guide Salmon was excellent. Salmon has a great knowledge of Old Delhi, taking us through laneways, bazaars and seeing the daily workings of Indian life in the city. Snacks at Haldirams were delicious and great intro to Indian cuisine. Would thoroughly recommend Magic Delhi Metro tour and ask for Salmon.
