Overview

Explore the Northern Coromandel on a day that offers a unique combination of both hiking and biking.

Experience our location from the comfort of a modern minibus as it travels under giant pohutukawa trees on its way to the Coastal Walkway. Leave it to our driver to negotiate the conditions while you soak up the stories and savor the scenery.

Your self-guided hike passes through expansive farmland and regenerating native bush. Pause at the Lookout with its famous views across the ocean and tortured waves crashing on the rocky shore below. The scenery is as spectacular in reverse as you return to Fletcher Bay where a delicious afternoon tea awaits.

The second highlight of the day is the bike ride to Colville beside the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. Enjoy the fresh air, explore at your leisure and leave the hard work to the power of the ebike. Rest assured your driver is never far away to support you along the way. Cycling experience is essential to ensure you get the best out of your day.

Stop At: Coromandel Coastal Walkway, Stony Bay Road, Coromandel New Zealand

We meet you at our Colville depot where you join the shuttle. Enjoy a personable commentary along the way as your experienced driver points out the sights and scenery along the way.

Your Coastal Walkway hike starts at Fletcher Bay and travels through regenerating native bush on a pathway once used by early Maori and European Settlers. Descend to the depths of Poley Bay with its stark, craggy rock formations.

Walk on to the Lookout, sit and savour the seaviews across the Colville Channel to Great Barrier Island. Return to Fletcher Bay via the same route in reverse where you will be met with a delicious afternoon tea before the bike leg of the journey.

The full return hike totals ten kilometers and suits those with moderate fitness. If on the day you prefer to take on something less strenuous, your driver will advise you on the best options for turnaround points. The Walkway is well signposted and we provide pocket maps to ensure this self guided hike is enjoying for all.

Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes

Stop At: Coromandel Peninsula, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato Region, North Island

Bike the Coast Road back to Colville beside the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. This ride is truly unique and a great way to round off the day.

Riding up to 36kms back to Colville over a quiet gravel road is a great way to spend more time in our backyard.

We will ensure you are comfortable with handling the ebike before you depart. All safety equipment is provided including a helmet, pannier and hi visibility vest plus maps and directions. All you need to bring is comfortable biking gear and the necessary confidence to cycle over a quiet, back country, gravel road. We are never far away to keep an eye out for you.

The route travels under giant Puriri and Pohutukawa trees as it winds its way to the coast. There are a couple of hill climbs but the bikes handle these with ebike ease. Once you reach the coastline you can pause for photo opportunities as you gaze out across the ocean. Dolphins are known to frolic close to the shore and on the odd occasions the orca are never far away.

In October 2023 my wife and I hired e-bikes from Hike & Bike and rode the Coastal Walkway from Port Jackson to Fletcher Bay and the Lookout, then up over the top of the mountain and down to Stony Bay and Port Charles. There was even time for a hot chocolate on the ride back to Colville. The service was great and Leanne answered all our questions about the Coromandel so we got to climb the Pinnacles, relax at Hot Water Beach, paddle a kayak to Donut Island and walk around the Waihi goldfield! Can't wait to ride Stony Bay again sometime.

Fabulous day doing the hike and bike tour and we had the tour all to ourselves😊. Gavin drove us to the start of our first short hike, giving us history and information about the area en route. He then dropped us off and waited to pick us up at the other end of it. Then we drove a little further to start the next walk. Unfortunately due to a path closure caused by weather earlier in the year we couldn’t do the whole one way hike, so we walked to where we could have the lunch we had brought with us in a little cove and then turned and walked back to where Gavin was waiting for us with our bikes at the ready and coffee and cake. What a beautiful cycle path following the coast 36 km. We opted for non E-bikes but there are a couple of climbs (x3 I remember 😬) which are quite challenging. Gavin made sure we made it home by always coming up from the rear to make sure we didn’t have any problems. (Especially me getting up the hills 🤣) We would certainly recommend this trip - beautiful scenery and well organised. Thank you Gavin and Leanne for a wonderful day allowing us to experience the beautiful north coast of Coromandel.
