If you love living green, then Ella is obviously a place to visit. Ella Rock is one of the place which proves it.
Trekkers would love the place. It’s bit tiring to do the hiking. But it is definitely worth it. Once you got to the summit you will realize why we said so. The panoramic views it provides with mist and cloud covering the area, especially in the early mornings and the late evenings are something you should witness and that would suffice enough to say that you visited Ella.
Total time for climbing up and down is 4 hours. Yes, sounds like a long journey. But the way up there is with full of diversity. If you are starting form Ella train station, you would enjoy the rail walk, and soon as you started climbing up, you will be passing a waterfall, the rubber tree forest and tea plantations.
On a rainy day, it can be slippery, so better be cautious with what you wear for the journey. Wear something suitable for a hiking and towards the end of the hike,.still manageable.

    If you are considering whether to get a guide for Ella Rock at sunrise, talking as an experienced hiker and pair of 2 people, you absolutely do. It’s not only pitch black and a very difficult terrain of roots, rocks & elevation, but wild dogs (harmless unless they fight each other) and a few sketchy people near the start of the trail that surely would have tried to lead us astray. With a guide it is perfectly safe! I couldn’t recommend this company more and our tour guide SAM! He was so knowledgable on way down pointing out the beautiful plants and scenery and brought mats for us to sit on at the rock at the top. Hands down best memory!

    Sana was great! Very considerate, talkative and fun. I actually kept on going for a day tour, which was a bit too much driving around for me but Sana made this also into a good experience after all.

    Our Guide Jeewa was fantastic. He was very punctual, picking us up on time from our hotel and whizzing us off to the beautiful Ella rock. He provided us with some head torches which were super handy for making the way up the dark path which felt like a real adventure. Jeewa was full of knowledge and told us some very interesting information about the local area and helped us to identify all the different fruits and vegetables that were being grown. We were lucky in that he took us past all the crowds at the top of Ella Rock to a breathtaking view point where we were able to watch the sun rise. On making our way back down, the views were incredible and it felt like a whole new adventure. Once reaching the bottom, we were treated to a stop off at a local cafe for a wonderful refreshing cup of tea. On top of all this, Jeewa is a fantastic photographer and captured some amazing photos of the two of us. I would highly recommend this trip - thank you :)

    We climbed the Ella rock with Jeewa today. He was so friendly and gave us so much interesting information. He took many pictures of us and also gave us a flag of Sri Lanka! He is really a kind hearted and open guide with respect and knowledge of nature. Would really recommend him

    Jeewa arrived promptly at 4am, we drove to the start point and then I was given water, a snack and a head torch as it was pitch black. We made our way up the rock - definitely needed a guide as there are no signs and no obvious path - we had time to stop for breaks and arrived with plenty of time for the sunrise, which was beautiful. Jeewa told me many interesting facts about the area, as well as Sri Lanka in general. Afterwards we went for a cup of tea and roti and then back to my hotel, all before 9am.
