Skipper provided a very interesting commentary. We walked from Ship Bay to Furneaux Lodge. Only snag is there is not too much to see for a lot of the walk due to the bush. But you do get to see lots of wekas. Good quick boat ride both ways and friendly staff.
Awesome walk, beautiful views. Jason the mail boat driver was excellent, full of local knowledge, loved hearing what the area is doing for conservation, a great added extra to the trip
This was a great trip from Picton to Ships Cove in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. Jason, our skipper, gave an excellent commentary during our one hour ride to our destination. The boat was clean, on time, instructions were clear and everyone we were involved with at beachcomber was polite and helpful Our return journey was just as good Thanks Beachcomber!
8 of us from Australia completed the Queen Charlotte Track with Wilderness Guides in Picton. We chose the upgraded 5 day trip with a rest day, which we used to kayak for a day. Wilderness Guides were well organised and good communicators when booking for a trip for 8 people and they were responsive to our needs. The walk was scenic including lovely tasteful accommodation along the way in picturesque settings.
For day-hikers, this is a Must-Do excursion while in Picton. Our skipper and tour guide for the day, Jason, was excellent. He shared great knowledge about Marlborough Sound history, past and on-going conservation efforts, recent improved ecological quality, and much more. While on the way to our hiking drop-off point, we enjoyed his narrative along the very scenic route; saw dusky dolphins and fur seals. Now, off to the best part of the day; the approximate 12 KM hike along the Queen Charlotte Track between Furneaux Lodge (nice cafe for a coffee to start your hike) and Punga Cove was gorgeous. Expect some slightly challenging inclines along the way, plus stops to take pictures; however, the tour company gives you a good buffer (5 hours) for the 3.5 hour recommended hiking time. The drop off time at the Lodge was 11:00 and the pick-up time at the cove was 4:00. Finish in time to have a well- earned adult beverage at the Cove!
