This Route retraces the steps that the North American romantic writer and diplomat Washington Irving followed in 1829, fascinated by the richness and exoticism of the Hispano-Arabic civilization together with his admiration for the figure of Christopher Columbus.

The itinerary revives the path followed on horseback in 1829 by the romantic North American writer that gives the route its title, captivated by the exotic splendor and copious abundance of the "Arab" vestiges of Andalusia.

Day 2: SEVILLE

Stop At: Real Alcazar de Sevilla, Patio de Banderas, s/n, 41004 Seville Spain
In the morning, pick up at hotel / apartment and guided tour of the city of Seville. Visiting first the Alcazar of the city. The Alcázar It is the residence of the members of the Spanish Royal Family when they visit Seville. This makes it the oldest royal palace in use in Europe. Unesco declared it a World Heritage Site, along with the Seville Cathedral and the Archive of the Indies, in 1987.
It is a walled palace complex built in different historical stages. Although the original palace was built in the High Middle Ages, some vestiges of Islamic art are preserved and, from the period after the Castilian conquest, a Mudejar palatial space and another in the Gothic style

After the visit to the Alcazar, we will make a private visit to the Cathedral of the city, a World Heritage Site, an icon of Seville and one of the world's greatest architectural jewels. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the third largest after Saint Peter in the Vatican and Saint Paul in London.

In the Santa Cruz neighborhood, Whasington Irving lived during his stay in Seville, specifically in house number 2 in Callejón del Agua. This magnificent 13th century building was originally part of the Reales Alcázares outbuildings. Today, it is a private residence whose patio, crowded with colorful flowerpots, is one of the most photographed in Seville.
On the crenellated façade you can see the commemorative sculpture of the American diplomat and writer Washington Irving, who lived in this house while he wrote his most widely read work "The Tales of the Alhambra."

Day 3: SEVILLA-ALCALA DE GUADAIRA-CARMONA

In the morning, we check-out and move to Carmona. Previously, we will make a half-day visit. This was the first leg of Irving's fascinating journey. We will visit the castle of Alcalá, a place with more than 4500 years of history and with the result of a strategic place in the defense of the city of Seville during Muslim times. Irving like us, after the visit, we will enjoy the excellent gastronomy of the city in a restaurant located in a cave nestled in the castle walls. These caves date back to the 15th century and today it is the popular neighborhood of the city.

Day 4: CARMONA-MARCHENA-CARMONA

Stop At: Alcazar de la Puerta de Sevilla, Plaza de Blas Infante, 41410 Carmona Spain
In the morning, we will take a guided visit to the Alcázar Puerta de Sevilla, one of the most impressive bastions that divided the Alcor region with the Campiña de Sevilla. An essential visit to know the essential elements prior to the Conquest of Seville

We continue the tour through what was the original Jewish quarter of the city, until we reach the center of the city and be able to taste some of its most traditional dishes.

Stop At: Marchena, Marchena, Province of Seville, Andalucia
After lunch, we move to Marchena to enjoy a palatial city with a clear Muslim heritage. Marchena invites you to stroll through its city, where each square or corner is a respite of tranquility and centuries-old architecture.
We will visit the old Alcazaba, ending with the jewel of the city, the Parish of San Juan Bautista, considered one of the churches with the most works of art in Andalusia. Inside there is nothing less than works by Zurbarán. Enjoying a coffee in the historic center, we will return to Carmona.

Day 5: CARMONA-ÉCIJA-OSUNA

Stop At: Ecija, Ecija, Province of Seville, Andalucia
City of towers and bell towers, after check-out, we will move to the city of Écija, halfway between Seville and Córdoba, where W. Irving is amazed by its colossal palaces, its winding cobbled streets. Here we will take a guided tour of the historic center, the majestic Benamejí Palace and the curious Parroquia Mayor de Santa Cruz. After the visit, we move to Osuna

Upon arrival in Osuna, we will have lunch in a restaurant. Osuna is one of the most monumental cities in the entire province, thanks to its ducal past that gave it splendor and wealth, especially in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It is enough to walk through its streets to enjoy its stately houses and palaces, its streets full of urban details, charming houses and buildings. We will take a walk around the Collegiate Church and the historic center until we reach the Casino. After the visit, we will move to Antequera, making a stop in Estepa for coffee.

In Estepa, we will go up in our vehicle to the Cerro de San Cristóbal, from there we will enjoy a panoramic view of the countryside. In the surroundings we can visit the exteriors of the Estepa castle. After the visit, we continue the trip to Antequera.

Day 6: ANTEQUERA

In the morning, we will take a private guided visit to the Alcazaba of the city. Declared a National Monument, most of the preserved walls date from the first half of the fourteenth century and materials from the Roman period were used in their construction.
Our visit will take place through the different rooms of the fortress.

At the end of the visit, we will take a one-hour guided walk through the historic center. The rest of the day free for lunch and rest.

Day 7: ANTEQUERA-ARCHIDONA-LOJA

Stop At: Plaza Ochavada de Andalucia s/n, Archidona Spain
We check-out and leave behind one of the most emblematic places of the W. Irving route. We continue our trip to Loja, but making a stop in the town of Archidona, where our romantic traveler would find some of the most characteristic places, such as the Plaza Ochavada. Jewel of Andalusian urbanism, its peculiar construction made it go from a bullring for a time, to a place of confluence due to its different accesses to the town.

We continue the visit to the hermitage of the Virgen de Gracia. It is an old mosque, the only one preserved in the province of Malaga.

Leaving Archidona behind, we resume our way to Loja (Granada), we will arrive at the hotel and accommodation. We will enjoy lunch in this city. After lunch, we will take a guided visit to the citadel and the Church of the Incarnation. Free afternoon-evening.

Day 8: LOJA-MONTEFRIO-ILLORA-GRANADA

First thing in the morning, we check-out to start the last roads that lead us to the romantic Nasrid destination of our North American traveler. We will move to the villages of Montefrío, a unique place where we will visit the castle of the town with spectacular views.

Continuing with the visit, going down from the castle, we will visit the peculiar Church of the Incarnation, unique in Andalusia with a circular dome and designed in the likeness of the Agrippa pantheon in Rome.
