Overview

During this fantastic experience full of incredible panoramas and breathtaking views, you will get to know the various aspects of ETNA up close, the largest active volcano in Europe and a UNESCO heritage site. The guide will tell the story of the volcano, its birth and evolution over time, you will discover the geological and naturalistic aspects that characterize it such as the lava tunnels, the caves and the endemisms of the Etna Park. Finally, a food and wine tasting will take place at a local farm to learn about the best agricultural products that the Etna area can offer.

What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

Excursion along a path in the Etna Park which will take you to admire the volcano and the famous Valle del Bove, reaching a maximum altitude of around 2150 meters above sea level. During the excursion we will stop at a lava flow cave with helmets and torches. Finally, visit to a farm for a tasting of typical local products such as Etna honey and fine local wines.

    Antonio is a kind and enthusiastic guide, who makes sure that you have an excellent experience. He picked us up from Catania in his comfortable private car and drove us first to the Silvestri crater, explaining all the while the origins and history of the volcano. After, we walked to the Schiena dell'Asino, at an altitude of around 2000m, from where you overlook the Valley of the Ox and up to the south-east crater of Etna. The walk is perfectly fine for those with moderate fitness and sound footwear. On the way back, we spent twenty minutes or so exploring a lava tube with helmets and lights. Then, we stopped in Zafferana Etnea for a short wine and honey tasting, before arriving back in Catania early afternoon. Antonio's English is adequate and his knowledge of Etna good; even better is his knowledge of the unique flora on Etna. Moreover, Antonio is a genuinely nice person. I can recommend him and his private tour wholeheartedly.

    Antonio is an awesome guide who can tell you a lot of things about Etna, the volcano eruptions, history of the place. It was a nice experience for us and also full of pleasant surprises. When arriving at Valle del Bove, we have stopped to admire a desert caldera. And guess what?! Antonio takes out of his backpack some delicious treats along with a small bottle of Etna wine. The best surprise ever! We can highly recommend Antonio for his qualities and also for his nice personality. Grazie, Antonio!

    The tour with Antonio was excellent. Antonio is a fantastic tour guide with extensive knowledge about history of Etna. We really enjoyed it and we had a lot of fun . I would strongly recommend it to take this tour with him.

    Antonio was fantastic! We had the best time on this tour. Antonio is very knowledgeable and personable making our hike both fun and informative. We were paired with another couple for this hike and Antonio was great answering all our questions and with keeping conversations flowing. 10/10.
