Chamarel is a village in the southwest of Mauritius with a population of 700. It is named after the Frenchman Charles Antoine de Chazal de Chamarel, who lived in the area around 1800.

Chamarel is primarily known for its scenic locations and nature attractions in its neighborhood.
Among them are the Seven Colored Earth, the Chamarel Falls and the Black River Gorges National Park. The surrounding area is also known for its locally grown coffee and for the famous Rhum distillery .

The seven coloured Earth was a wonderful site .. we also enjoyed the UNESCO heritage site at Black River gorges .. the Shiva enormous statue was spectacular . our guide was very friendly and professional.. he knew every detail of each site we visited . Much recommended tour !

I had never seen anything similar to the seven coloured earth, so it was a most interesting part of the tour.

We booked this excursion prior to our arrival on the island. The hotel pickup was well-organized, and our friendly driver Bansi shared a lot of information concerning our trip. He helped us with our baby/stroller, and he helped us take some family photos. He was telling us historical insights during the drive so we didn`t even notice how time flies while on the trip. At every stop, he told us the relevant information in detail about the visited sites (volcano craters, waterfalls, holy places, etc. For lunch, he took us to a restaurant where traditional Maritian food was served, and it was excellent. Overall we were extremely satisfied with the service, I highly recommend this tour to everyone who visits Mauritius. Additionally, I was contacted by Sahil, that I had lost my purse in the car - the next day Bansi returned it to me. Million thank to these guys!

Our tour guide was named Vikash he was extremely helpful with a very comfortable vehicle we visited the Hindu temple, 7 colours and the giant tortoises, the gauge, chamarel waterfall and the extinct volcano he provided a great deal of history about Mauritius from those who first inhabited the island to the several uses of sugar cane. It was a shame about the weather as we couldn’t see the spectacular views at the gauge and a further viewing platform but the trip was really good and well worth a visit.

Amazing trip with friendly, interactive, knowledgeable guide (Vikash). Black river gorge and view over sea to Le Morne both spectacular. Lunch in authentic restaurant was generous and tasty and staff charming. Huge recommendation from us!
