Overview

We will teach you how to prepare six delicious Balinese food cooked traditionally at our organic farm.

Best of all, it is unkwon by the vast majority of tourists, making a peaceful, educational and unique visit.

By joining our programme, you will support local farmer income and contribute to our sustainable, culturally-respectful community based-tourism development in Pejeng, Bali

Our tour will begin on the farm with a welcome drink. While relaxing in a shaded part of the farm, I will present our community movement and teach you about how we grow our organic produce. After enjoying the welcome drink, we will walk along the community farm and learn about organic farming and the unique UNESCO- protected Subak System in Bali. During the farm tour, we will pick the ingredients that we are going to use during the cooking class for a true farm to table cooking experience.

Once we arrive at the centre of the community, Mai Organic farm, we will drink a refreshing juice made with vegetables and fruit from our local farms. Following the drink, we will prepare six Balinese dishes, such as tuna sate and corn fritters. Students are able to participate as much or as little as they would like. Lastly, you will enjoy your meal in a tranquil gubuk (hut) with new friends from the tour.

By supporting Mai Organic Farm, you are supporting a community of local farmers from Pejeng. Our movement aims to support the local farmers' and villagers' income while providing them with resources to improve their quality of life.

Our experience was so much fun!!! We learned, laughed and ate more than we ever expected. Our guide and chefs were knowledgeable, accommodating and kept us smiling and laughing the whole time. The food was delicious, we left so full and happy. The gardens/farm were also beautiful, well loved and taken care of. I will absolutely be recommending this to anyone I know visiting Bali and will go again when I come back myself!

Highlight of my trip! Our amazing guides were super friendly and warm, we thoroughly enjoyed the farm tour, cooking a selection of delicious dishes, meeting other travellers and having a heart meal together. Such a fun and authentic experience, I cannot wait to try and cook these dishes at home with the recipe book they provided!

The cooking class at Mai Organic Farm was a highlight of our trip! The team at the farm were great, so friendly and made the day really fun. Unlike other cooking classes we’ve done in the past this one was interactive and we were able to get really involved. We went around the farm picking all of the ingredients fresh and learnt a lot about different ingredients used in Balinese cooking. We made the most delicious food using these ingredients and Balinese ways of cooking. We had an amazing day at Mai Farm and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic and fun experience.

We had the best time at the Balinese Cooking Class at Mai Organic Farm! From the moment we arrived at the farm, we were warmly welcomed with a refreshing fresh coconut. The farm tour was a great start to the experience. Walking through the community farm, we learned a lot about the farming practices and had the pleasure of picking fresh ingredients that we would later use in our cooking class, truly embracing the farm-to-table concept. With the tour complete, we were treated to a fresh juice made with locally sourced vegetables and fruits that was a refreshing pause before we dove into the cooking session. The cooking class itself was a delight! We prepared authentic Balinese dishes, including the incredible tuna sate and to-die-for corn fritters. The expert instructors guided us through the process, and what impressed me most was the flexibility they offered. Everyone in the group's dietary restrictions and preferences were happily accommodated, and they even made a spicy and non-spicy version of most dishes - which made me super happy as a person who craves that heat. (Other classes will cater to those with the least tolerance, and give you some extra chili to add afterwards, which just isn't the same.) I left eager to find the specialty ingredients back home and try to recreate some of the delicious things we made. What really made this class stand out is the wonderful folks facilitating the class. Each one was so friendly and outgoing, it also encouraged the participants to get to know each other, and it really wasn't long before it felt like we were hanging out with a group of friends. I can't recommend this Balinese Cooking Class enough. It's a unique opportunity to connect with nature, learn about sustainable practices, and immerse yourself in the rich culinary traditions of Bali. If you're planning a trip to Ubud, be sure to include this cooking class on your itinerary – you won't regret it!

Wayan, Apung, Komang and the rest of the team made this experience totally unforgettable, and it is hands down our favourite thing we have done in Bali. The farm is incredible, the care they have for the land really shows and this follows through with the food and teachings. We made the most amazing lunch and had a fantastic time getting to know Balinese techniques and ingredients, and thoroughly enjoyed eating it afterwards! If you only do one thing during your time in Bali, this should be it! Cannot thank everyone involved enough!
