What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

Mount Batur is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network and is considered to have some of the most stunning views on the island of Bali. Indeed, visitors often comment that their Mt Batur trek was the highlight of their vacation.

You’ll begin with a pick-up by one of our friendly, licensed, English-speaking drivers. Once you arrive safely at Toya Bungkah village, you’ll meet your guide for the trek who will brief you on history, culture and safety procedures for your trek.

You’ll follow your guide along the trail as the dawn light begins to brighten up the path and its surroundings. A beautiful sunrise view awaits at the summit, but there is plenty to see along the trail as well. Once you reach the top, you’ll sit and relax as the sun rises over the eastern sky. Your guide will begin cooking your breakfast over the volcanic steam as you take pictures or sit and enjoy the view.

When ready, you’ll begin your trek back down the mountain. On your way home, you’ll stop at a coffee plantation to taste some of Bali’s best coffee and tea. You’ll arrive back at your hotel in plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your afternoon by the pool, at the beach or for a massage.

Really great trip from start to finish! Easy to book and organise hostel pick up/drop off via whatsapp the day before. Our guide Maanwiss was very helpful and friendly, taking some great photos for us as well! Would definitely recommend.

I did the Mount Batur sunrise trek in early November 2023. It was a phenomenal experience and definitely the highlight of my trip to Bali. Subagia was truly an excellent guide and really made the trek memorable. I was picked up at 3:15am from my hotel in Kintamani and driven to the trek start point, where I met Subagia, who gave me a headlight, a walking stick and some water. It was a steep but enjoyable climb, which took about an hour, but could be done in an hour and a half at a more leisurely pace (if you do the jeep tour (which I didn't do, you start higher up). I would recommend proper hiking boots as it is steep and you can slip at times in the volcanic ash. Subagia is very knowledgeable and has very good English. The conversation with him was engaging and enjoyable throughout. Subagia always made sure I was okay and showed the way up the volcano safely. Once you get to the top, the views are amazing (see the photos) - I was lucky it was a totally clear day. Subagia was great at taking photos for me. He also got me some hot chocolate, a banana sandwich and cooked some boiled eggs for breakfast in the volcanic vents while I watched the sun rise. Subagia was very good at cleaning up so that we left no rubbish at the top. After sunrise, we walked around at the top of the crater for a bit before returning back down. After the sun came up, there were also some monkeys at the top looking for left-over food. It was a very memorable experience and I cannot thank Subagia enough. After returning from the volcano, I was driven to a coffee plantation, which was more enjoyable than I was expecting, and so is a bit of a bonus after the climb. I would like to thank the driver too for collecting me and then returning me to my hotel. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The organisation the day before the tour was, however, slightly haphazard and it took a while to confirm the right pick-up time. Other than that, I cannot fault the experience. Thank you for a great experience!

This being my first real trek I was anxious and worried but it all went smooth with maanwiss by our side. I was taken all the way up and down safely making sure I was enjoying the experience along the way. And yes the hike up was tiring but worth it! And I would personally recommend his assistance for anyone going for Mount Batur trek.
