Overview

Your long time local guide Grant has an instinct for the best locations and winemakers who he loves to introduce you to. Hear stories and taste their gorgeous hand crafted boutique wines in the most beautiful environments. Grant literally takes you on the back roads which are far more beautiful where you can feel the ancient Jurassic island vibe and you will see a lot more of Waiheke than the cookie cutter tours. Enjoy your day with a small group of like minded boutique wine lovers. Cheers!

Itinerary

Your local independent Waiheke Island guide will greet you as you step onto Waiheke Island. Once your small group of like minded wine lovers are all together your adventure begins with a drive up to Oneroa Village where we will stop briefly just to get oriented and your guide will familiarise you with the wonders of Waiheke. Then we drive along the most beautiful forested back roads looking down to the sparkling blue water as we head towards your first Waiheke winery. We avoid the big commercial tour routes and focus on the small old school wineries where the people are interesting and the wine is gorgeous being made from hand picked grapes from the vineyard surrounding you. Every wine maker has a unique approach and our guests often comment on the relaxed flow of the tour and nice contrasting boutique wineries we choose free from giant buses so it is just you and the palpable sweet vibe of this ancient Jurassic island. We spend up to an hour at each of 3 uniquely different wineries and we have some wonderful lunch options for you to choose from. If you have to get back at a particular time let us know or if you want to stay on for an early dinner we can help you with that. Cheers!

I booked this tour based on the great reviews I had seen online and it did not disappoint! The tour meant as a small group ended up being a private tour for the 2 of us which was great! Grant our tour guide met us at the ferry terminal and first took us to the local town to have a look around and get some coffee. The first vineyard we went to we tried 7 wines! Can honestly say that we had some of the best wines we’ve ever tried there that we ended up buying some bottles to take home. The second vineyard was good, not our favourite, but with the beautiful views and sunny weather we could’ve stayed longer if we had the time. The wine was easy drinking and smooth. The third vineyard had Spanish influence through its decoration, food and wine which we loved! We received food pairings with all the wines which enhanced the flavour of the wine very well. We tried 4 wines and a ‘port-style’ wine which was my favourite and I am a white wine drinker. It is worth noting that all the staff at each of the vineyards were extremely knowledgable about all the wines we tried. They explained the wine making process, the flavours of each wine and the ageing and bottling process clearly. It was also great to have a guide who knew so much about Waiheke Island. Grant provided commentary and facts about the island as we drove around, took us to an amazing lunch spot that all the locals love (we did too) and when he found out I preferred white wine he adapted the tour to take us to a different winery that suited me (instead of a winery that had more red wines). Overall, we really enjoyed this tour and had a great time on Waiheke Island. I highly recommend this tour and in doing so you will be supporting a local small business which is so important. Many thanks to Grant for the superb day!

I booked this tour based on the brilliant reviews I’d seen and it did not disappoint. I wanted a small group tour and surprisingly it ended up being a private tour which was great for us! Our tour guide Grant met us at the ferry terminal and then drove us into the town and allowed us to have a look around and get coffee. The first vineyard we went to we tried 7 wines! Honestly some of the best wine we have tried before and we ended up buying some bottles to take home. The second vineyard we went to is shown in the first photo. We tried 3 wines, not as good as the first vineyard we went to, but paired with a beautiful view and great weather we would’ve stayed longer if we could. The third vineyard we went to had Spanish influence in its decoration and food. We tried 4 wines and a ‘port-style’ wine, all with food pairings. The food pairings really brought out the flavour of the wines, they went amazingly well together. I am more of a white wine drinker but the ‘port-style’ wine was my favourite and was really easy to drink. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day, I highly recommend this tour, it is important to support the locals and you will have a great experience choosing this tour.

This was a great small group experience. The driver provided very good information about the island and the wines. I thought the vineyards/wineries he took us to were exceptional.

Grant was an excellent guide. He was quite knowledgeable about the wine scene on Waiheke and engaged with our group well. We learned a lot!
