We had a pre-arranged night visit to Zealandia, which was very interesting. Our guide was obviously passionate about the sanctuary, and we were lucky to see Tuatara, roaming free, as well as a kiwi, which made the night visit very special. We discovered that our night visit allowed us entry for a few days, so the next day we also made a (free of charge) daytime visit, which was also very enjoyable. This time, we went without a guide, and just 'wandered', but we saw many different birds we had not seen during the night tour. The sanctuary is doing great ecological work, and is definitely worth visiting both during the day, and at night, if you have the chance.

We met our guide Sara, who provided us with flashlights and headsets. It was a nice walk with the owls calling and the glow worms the highlights for me. 12 people were way too many - you could hear through the headset but, if you were at the back of the group, it was easy to miss what the guide was seeing.

I was very much looking forward to this tour and, despite not sighting the much sought after kiwi, it was a lot of fun. Andrew was our guide, with Lorna the 'scout' for our group walking ahead of us to seek out potential sightings of wildlife and give us warning. The walk itself is very flat and easy for all levels of fitness. We were armed with little headsets to be able to hear Andrew's commentary and small red light torches for optimum night time viewing. Alas, there was no kiwi to be seen but the highlight for me was the mass of glow worms to be seen near the creek. It was wondrous! At the end of the walk, a local herbal tea was provided. A great experience. Keep up the excellent work!

This experience was great! The guides were helpful and so knowledgable. They also set great expectations that we may not see things since it’s a reserve - but we ultimately saw several of the large crickets, a kiwi, and other birds!

They are well organized and very informative. We saw lots of wild life, and yes the Kiwi bird was spotted 3 times. Red light flashlights are provided.
