Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259 - 210BC), the first emperor of the first unified dynasty of Imperial China, left the UNESCO World Heritage Site to Xian. You will see a super large collection of life-size terra cotta sculptures in battle formations, reproducing the mega imperial guard troops. Being the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century, the Terracotta Army is no doubt a must-see for every visitor to Xi'an.

    Terracotta warriors are stunning. I would recommend reading the Wikipedia page first and visiting the pits in the order 3,2,1. They are very busy but foreign visitors are very rare. We got there by public transport following the accurate directions given by Travel China Guide. You will need AliPay for the bus but can pay cash on the metro system. For both we showed on our phones the destination we wanted as we don’t speak Chinese. At the site you need the most left hand queue for entry if you don’t have a Chinese mainland ID and they will scan your passport and let you in seamlessly. If you wanted an English speaking guide lots approach you inside but we wanted to go by ourselves which worked fine for us.

    The booking of the tickets was quick and efficient. The discovery and excavation of the Terracotta Warriors is truly magnificent. It is essential to get there as early as possible to avoid the crowds. Take a selfie stick so you can obtain photos over the crowds. Well worth a visit.

    This was a wonderful experience. We purchased the e ticket option and on presenting our passports there were no issues. We commend the whole process.Tips: 1. Be patient for the final ticket confirmation and make sure you can access your email in China (problematic at times) 2. Book the early session 8.30am as it gets very busy very quickly and there is no skipping the queue. 3. If independent travellers pay for a taxi to drop you and wait to take you back… it’s not that expensive. 4. Once inside the entry go to the left and pay 10rmb to be dropped straight to main sites. Otherwise be prepared for lots of steps.

    Travel China Guide helped us by booking our tickets to the Terra-cotta warriors + bullet trains between Xi’an and Beijing.     Amazing experience, but is hard to purchase the tickets for foreigners, there is no choices for foreigner tickets on ctrip,wechat, or meituan. So you have to purchase online tickets on trip.com or klook but its 50% more expensive than the actual price, also you can purchase tickets on the spot which is in normal price but they have daily quota for it.
