Along the avenue we find shops, several shopping centers and department stores such as Pyrénées, Escale and Hyper Andorra. Almost all the banks in the country have their headquarters in this commercial area. The avenue bears the name of the patron saint of Andorra, the Virgin of Meritxell, whose sanctuary is located in Meritxell (Canillo).
