It was our first visit to Uzbekistan. The program is well arranged to visit all the must-see places. And the hotels and transport by bullet train were also very comfortable. Moreover, the guides were excellent. They were passionated to explain us as much as possible about the monuments, the cities and the country. I would strongly recommend the tour especially for whom visits such a beautiful country for the first time.

The English-speaking tour guides did a good job in Uzbekistan and so did the drivers who took us from place to place. The places we visited have rich history. The customer service for La Vacanza Travel is based in the US, and they arrange the tour through a local tour operator in Uzbekistan. That's reasonable. However, we experienced a gap between what we were led to believe by La Vacanza Travel and what the local tour operator offered. La Vacanza Travel had suggested that a couple of items in the package were optional but if we chose to take it, there were no additional costs for us. This was not the case on the ground. The hotel booked for a night in Bukhara by the tour operator, Malika Bukhara Hotel, was good. Comfortable, clean, good breakfast menu, and good service. We were allowed to check out when it was time to go to the railway station, for Samarkand. The hotel in Samarkand, The Khan Hotel, would get a "Poor" rating from us, for 3 reasons: (1) the two rooms given for a group of 5 persons were a kilometer apart, on the same floor but one room at the back end of the hotel. Not next to each other and not closeby. (2) Buffet Breakfast menu had an inadequate supply of food items, and refillings were poorly managed. (3) We were asked to check out at 12.00 noon when the train for our next destination was at 3.45 pm. A 2.00 pm checkout would have been reasonable as was the case at the hotel in Bukhara. Eventually, after some negotiation and as a big favour since one person in our group was feeling sick, we were allowed to check out at 2.00 pm. This was a 3-day tour. The actual sightseeing was confined to two half days, on Day 2 (8.00 am to about 1.00 pm), and Day 3 (again, 8.00 am to about 1.00 pm), i.e., a total of One day's excursion. Interestingly, the two half day tours were arranged only in the morning/mid-day hours when the weather is very hot. Day 1 evening was free, but an excursion (some folklore show) was at additional cost per person. Day 2 evening was free after arrival in Samarkand, but there was no excursion. We discovered through the web that there was a light and sound show at Registan that evening. Registan is one of the top places we were supposed to visit as a part of the tour package. The local tour operator had arranged for us to go there the next day in the hot sun. Anyway, our whole group was delighted to go there on our own for the light and sound show. That was indeed the highlight of our tour which we managed on our own. We had paid for fast train travel from Tashkent to Bukhara and the return via Samakand to Tashkent. I understand that the fast train tickets were not available for the first leg of our tour, and some 2 extra hours were spent in the train instead of sightseeing. This is already a long story and I am sorry about it. The local tour operator, Mr. Umid, was very kind and courteous and always available to talk and explain the tour to us. We appreciate it. Would I make a booking via La Vacanza Travel again, or recommend it to others??? A good question!

I booked this tour almost last minute because I didn't have time to plan the trip and it was a season and no available train tickets. They managed to get me the tickets and planned everything perfectly. They hire great great tour guides who know how to make you fall in love with this beautiful country (Zinat, Farahat and Shawkat). Umid was my guy I was texting him all the time to help me with things and he responded very fast and accommodate my needs. I have added another day to the tour to Chimgan and Amirosy Mountain, feel free to request more from them.
