Overview

Unravel the mystery of Dutch cuisine with a local guide and see why it's so much more than just stroopwafel. As you meander through three of Amsterdam's most beautiful and historic neighborhoods, you'll discover stunning monuments and canals, and learn how the local delicacies are intertwined with the culture and history of the Netherlands. You'll experience it all - from family businesses that have been around since the 19th century, to legendary bakeries, and old Dutch cafés established in the 1920s.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Hans Egstorf, Spuistraat 274, 1012 VX Amsterdam, Netherlands

This is the oldest bakery in Amsterdam, making stroopwafel since 1898, and the perfect place to stop and try a hot-off-the-press freshly made stroopwafel. The bakery uses traditional baking methods and high-quality ingredients to create a range of sweet and savory treats and is a beloved institution in the city.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Cafe De Zwart, Spuistraat 334, 1012 VX Amsterdam The Netherlands

Café De Zwart is a historic café dating back to the early 20th century. A traditional 'brown cafe', it's known for its dark wood paneling, high ceilings, and classic interior that gives it an old-world charm. We'll stop here for a slice of their delicious apple pie, and a nice warm coffee.

Duration: 25 minutes

Stop At: Spui, Amsterdam The Netherlands

Set off on a stroll around Amsterdam's historic center. Your guide will share the fascinating stories behind gems that are hidden in plain sight, such as an unassuming 14th-century courtyard that was the epicenter of the 1960s part-political counterculture movement.

Duration: 35 minutes

Stop At: Herring Stall Jonk, Spui 7a, 1012 WX Amsterdam, Netherlands

This is a family-run business that sells herring and other fish and seafood specialties, and we'll stop here to try some of their local specialties. The stand has been in operation since 1987 and is still run today by the original owner, Jan Jonk, and his son, Jack. They are known for their high-quality herring and traditional preparation methods. The herring is sourced from the North Sea and is carefully cleaned and filleted on-site by the Jonk family.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx, Voetboogstraat 33, 1012 XK Amsterdam, Netherlands

Known for its delicious hand-cut fries, this street food stand was established in 1957 and is one of the best places to eat fries in the city. We'll try some of their fries with one of their most iconic sauces (which has its own little piece of history attached to it, too!).

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Fa. H. Wegewijs, Rozengracht 32, 1016 NC Amsterdam, Netherlands

What could be more Dutch than cheese? After taking a walk through the Jordaan neighborhood, we'll stop into this cheese store and taste one of the Netherland's most popular products - cheese!

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Café Sonneveld, Egelantiersgracht 72 74, 1015 RM Amsterdam, Netherlands

Housed in the former home of Wim Sonneveld, one of the best known Dutch artists of the last century, Café Sonneveld is a traditional Amsterdam café where you'll get to try some of our favorite Dutch snacks such as bitterballen, kaasstengels, and of course, Dutch genever.

Eduardo was amazing!! Despite the rain, we saw & learned & age so much! We’ve lived here for 4 months and it was so awesome getting to learn more about our new home here in Amsterdam! Highly recommend if you’re visiting Amsterdam or new to the area! The fresh stroopwafels were SO good! 🤤

We had a great morning wandering around the historic centre and Jordaan neighborhoods in Amsterdam with Eduardo. We tried a little bit of everything, from stroopwafel to fries, and finished with a unique tea tasting at the end. If you are looking to discover the typical foods of Amsterdam, as well as the history and story behind each one, this is a fun way to do so! It doesn't feel like a 'tour', more like a fun morning eating and exploring with a small group of new friends. Highly recommended!

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We went to some great places to experience Dutch cuisine and culture. This was our second Devour tour (Madrid 2018) and I highly recommend you go on one. You will be hooked.

This was a light hearted and easy walk to discover some of the basics of foods in Amsterdam. The guide was fabulous and she made sure everyone understood each place, we all enjoyed the food and drinks and she even made sure one of the couples got all the way to their tram- which was outside the "tour parameters." There was some confusion at the beginning of the tour for me- but between customer service and our guide- I was back on track in no time! This tour was great for a nice walk, an overview of the city and some treats along the way!

We had no idea that Amsterdam had so much to offer on the cuisine side of things. The stroopwaffel which is amazing and the bakery where they made them was still so authentic. During the foodstops we got lots of information on the history of Amsterdam and thefood that goes with the Dutch. The Teashop was a total eyeopener on how the Dutch brought tea to Europe and the tea ceremony I will never forget , Thanks!
