Overview

A private tour that gives you a chance to visit the less explored parts of The Netherlands. Kinderdijk, a UNESCO site and home to 19 windmills is possibly the only authentic place in The Netherlands, where you can explore the windmills.

After visiting Kinderdijk, you have the option to choose from one of the following cities i.e. Rotterdam, Gouda, Hague and Leiden. Gouda, Hague and Leiden are historic cities and full of old-world charm.

On the contrary, Rotterdam is more modern and hip. Irrespective of which city you choose, you will end the day with great memories.

Itinerary

Stop At: World Heritage Kinderdijk, Nederwaard 1, 2961 AS Kinderdijk The Netherlands

We will pick you up from Amsterdam and we drive to Kinderdijk located in the province of South Holland. The drive will be about 75 minutes. Kinderdijk is a group of windmills and pumping stations that was created to keep the area dry. The area where Kinderdijk is located is below sea level and to avoid flooding, this system was created. Today, Kinderdijk is a UNESCO site, more famous for its stunning views. Enjoy visiting the windmills or take a boat ride to get the best view. Entrance fees is included with this tour.

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Rotterdam, Rotterdam, South Holland Province

You have the option to visit Rotterdam, Gouda, Hague, or Leiden. Kindly note admission to a specific museum/attraction is excluded.

Welcome to Rotterdam. The second biggest city in the country. In contrast to Amsterdam, Rotterdam is modern with swanky high-rise buildings and recent but impressive bridges. Visit the Markthal, home to over 100+ food stalls and restaurants, the head-spinning Cubic house, or the newly opened Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. Optionally, take a water taxi to the impressive Hotel New York for a swanky High tea.

Gouda: Synonymous with Dutch cheese, Gouda is a 750-year-old historic city and is home to the stunning Sint - Janskerk, City Hall, Goudse waag, etc.

Leiden: Home of Rembrandt, Over 35 courtyards, 28 KM of canals, and countless monumental buildings. Fun fact: Before reaching America, the Pilgrim Fathers lived in Leiden in the 17th century. Hague: Political capital of Netherlands and 3rd largest city.

Driving back to Amsterdam takes about 75 minutes.

We travelled to Leiden, the Kinderdijk Windmills, toured a small high-quality cheese factory, and explored the Muiderslot Castle. Our guide drove us in his sedan. He was a very good driver, was knowledgeable regarding the destinations of the tour and the Netherlands generally, and otherwise strove to make the tour informative and enjoyable. For example, we were unable to see the interior of any windmill at Kinderdijk, due to inadequate staffing by the volunteer workers there, that day. After we saw what we could from the outdoors, our guide volunteered to add Muiderslot Castle to the itinerary, at no extra charge. The tour of Muiderslot was entertaining, and rounded out the day nicely.

We enjoyed traveling through the Netherlands’ countryside. The UNESCO World Heritage Site was amazing. Our driver was very knowledgeable and took us to a working cheese farm before acting as tour guide for our stop in Gouda.
