Overview

Sinharaja Rain Forest a very important, UNESCO named world heritage site and Biosphere reserve. Sinharaja is one of the most important bio diversity hotspot in Sri Lank The hilly virgin rain forest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the noisy Orange-billed Babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.

Reptiles include the endemic Green pit viper and Hump-nosed vipers, and there are a large variety of amphibians, especially tree frogs. Invertebrates include the endemic Common Birdwing butterfly and the inevitable leeches.

I booked this tour through TA. The driver picked me up at 730am sharp in colombo, drove 3 hrs and met by guide, he took me on bike to entrance and we started the trek. I saw chameleons, millipedes, snakes and spiders, along with 3 waterfalls. I tried to climb the 1st one but slipped, my guide was so gracious and helpful. I also got bit by a leech on my foot, he bandaged the bite.God bless him. You should have some level of fitness to do this trek, its uphill in places. I swam in the 2nd waterfall area. I recommend this one. We then ate lunch at his mothers restaurant which is homecooked sri lankan food. I was told many foreigners decline. They truly are missing out on authentic sri lankan cuisine. I very much recommend this tour/trek

I booked the tour thru Sudhhansa tours. They are very professional in their approach and customised the tour according to my needs. Even they changed the timing of our departure from hotel in Colombo to Sinharaja as per my request. The driver who drove me to the forest was amazing too with a helpful heart. And oh boy, what should I say about the sinharaja forest... It's pristine and a hidden gem in Srilanka. Majestic waterfalls, never seen before flora and fauna and away from all hustles and bustles. Must visit place if you are visiting srilanka.

A guided walk through the jungle which was a fantastic experience. The guide was so helpful finding jungle creatures for us to see and photograph. The waterfalls are spectacular. We saw fish and crayfish in the rock pools, it was a wonderful day.
