Wilpattu National Park is the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka.
Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is located 30 km west Anuradhapura and located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo).
It’s home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species.

The tour it wonderful but there is a long drive (4 hours) from Colombo to reach Wilpattu. The vehicles used for the safari fit 6 people and can become uncomfortable as the seat is high off the floor with little legroom in front. The driver will search for animals and stop the vehicle when they are seen. The drive through the animal park can be very bumpy. We saw leopards, elephants, deer, hogs, a crocodile, many birds and butterflies and buffalo over a period of about 3 hours. The tour does not stop for lunch or dinner (unless you ask) so bring snacks.
