Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka

A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

Stop At: Sri Muthumariamman Temple, 680 17 Kandy-Jaffna Highway, Matale 21000 Sri Lanka

Near to the main road through Matale, the Muthumariamman Hindu temple is a tall, exuberantly decorated structure that can be easily seen from afar. The prominent towers, called Gopurams, boast hundreds of detailed sculptures, in a rich mosaic of colour. These Gopurams structures can be seen in other Hindu temples across the island, as well as in Southern India.

We had an amazing day with Irfan! He did his best to offer us an unforgettable day. Not only is he an amazing driver, but he knows a lot about history, local culture and tips for the whole stay in Sri Lanka. If you ever book this tour is totally worth it and make sure you ask for Irfan as a driver/ tour guide. Unexpected surprises are part of the tour!

Great trip with Ifran to Sigiriya and Dambulla. He could not have been more accommodating and was really attentive and informative throughout. He’s also a great driver which was comforting as the driving style in Sri Lanka is a little different from the west. Great day out and would highly recommend.

Fantastic day, trip of a lifetime! We packed in a lot to this day trip from our base in beautiful Kandy, Thanks to driver Mr Irfan, who arrived early and got us in our way, the large car was very comfortable for us (2 adults, 2 kids, & bags), and drove us safely through the busy roads full of tuk tuks, buses and bikes, we even nodded off for a few extra zzz. MR Irfan is very knowledgeable and pointed out interesting sites as we passed, temples, rivers, a dam. Quick stop at a herbal & plant centre was v interesting and included snacks and a restorative massage. On to the day’s main events, the cave temples at Dambulla, we made sure to dress appropriately but we were hot! This is an incredible site, so beautiful. You can buy flowers on way up the steps, or items of clothing to cover up if needed. Next we headed to Sigirya Fortress, and climbed this rock for amazing views, it’s not for the faint-hearted but so worth it. If you don’t like heights, you can go halfway to the lion’s paws. We had a guide here and it made a big difference for us. What a special place, not to be missed, and could easily have spent longer. A short drive on to the the elephant safari and transfer to a jeep, this was an amazing experience, so many elephants, and peacocks and other wildlife. It was great to observe the elephants and didn’t feel like we were bothering them which was very important to us. This was a lot of driving and Mr Irfan kept us informed of things to notice as we drove, we had delicious snacks and fruits (red bananas, lemon bananas 🤩) and plenty stops for water and toilets. He made sure we were comfortable, hydrated, and had plenty of options and suggestions. We could not have had a better day, and wholeheartedly recommend Mr Irfan and Aaliya tours for trip planning in Kandy. This made a huge difference, especially travelling with kids, and not being used to the heat. We were so comfortable, learnt so much and already planning another trip as there is so much to see around Kandy. It was great to be able to relax in the car and know the driving was in safe hands.

We booked a driver for 3 days with Aaliya tours and did the Dambulla and Sigiriya tour from Kandy on day 2, with some bonus time at a national park for an elephant safari at the end of the day. We saw so many wild elephants! It was an excellent day trip and the service from Aaliya Tours was excellent from the moment we booked. Fantastic communication beforehand about itinerary, pick-up times and other logistical details for each day. The support team was very friendly and always fast to respond. Our driver Mr Irfan was superb. He arrived a few minutes early each day to pick us up and was super friendly and full of information about lots of different places that we passed. Also very considerate with toilet, water and snack breaks during long journeys. His driving was great as well, and we felt very safe throughout each journey. The car was very comfortable too, spacious and clean. I can’t recommend this tour or Aaliya Tours enough. They’ve helped make our trip to Sri Lanka unforgettable and also very easy and fuss free. We would definitely book with them again!
