Itinerary

Stop At: Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach, Plage de la Madeleine Utah Beach, 50480 Sainte-Marie-du-Mont France

You’ll join your expert guide in Paris aboard a comfortable, private coach. On the way to Normandy, learn the details of the Allied preparations for D-Day, the largest amphibious assault in history. Your guide, a fluent English-speaker, will stay with you throughout the tour to tell the story of the operation and answer questions from history buffs and curious minds.

On Utah Beach, your first stop, the Allies quickly defeated the German forces. You’ll visit an extraordinary D-Day museum housed in an old German bunker on the landing beach itself. The collection here brings home both the scale and the personal sacrifice involved in the operation, with an original B-26 airplane on display along with collections of soldiers’ letters home.

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Utah Beach, 50480 Sainte-Marie-du-Mont France

Discover Utah Beach where the Allies landed on the morning of 6th June 1944.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Office de Tourisme intercommunal de Grandcamp-Maisy, 26 quai Crampon, 14450 Grandcamp-Maisy France

Next, experience some of the culture and traditions of Normandy. Many Allied soldiers found shelter with local farmers. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to tour one, featuring a 17th-century barn, locally-made apple cider and traditional apple brandy. Lunch is served at a restaurant in a quiet port nearby.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Pointe du Hoc, 14450 Cricqueville-en-Bessin France

After your meal, your coach takes you to Pointe du Hoc. From Pointe du Hoc, you’ll get a sense of the challenges the Allies faced, with views of the English Channel – and intimidating cliffs blocking access inland. Cliffs combined with enemy fire to make the landing at Omaha Beach a desperate battle for survival.

Duration: 40 minutes

Stop At: Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer, 14710 Colleville-sur-Mer France

We’ll also have the opportunity to pay our respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer. The cemetery is located on a bluff that overlooks Omaha Beach, which was one of the landing beaches of the D-Day invasion. Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., son of President Theodore Roosevelt and a Medal of Honor recipient, is buried here together with the almost 10,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives. Your guide will use the time spent driving to provide enriching commentary and answer questions, preparing you for each stop on the tour. You'll have time to look around the cemetery, visit the wall of the missing and awe-inspiring memorial, and look down upon Omaha, the beach where the Allies faced the stiffest resistance and suffered the most casualties.

The journey back to Paris gives you time to reflect on all you’ve seen – and the tremendous courage and sacrifice of those who fought here.

Duration: 45 minutes

From the American Cemetery, you can see Omaha Beach, one of the landing beaches where many American soldiers are buried. Inside the Omaha Beach Visitor Centre, gain insight into the landings that did not fare accordingly to plan.

This tour was amazing, beginning with Sid, our tour leader. He was very informative and funny. He kept us very involved. The trip was long, but he made time pass with his stories and info. As he would say, "it was lovely".

Always been on my bucket list and did not disappoint!! Bus ride is a bit long but totally worth it. Danial was our guide and had an excellent skill set when it came to telling the story of what lead up to that day. You will not regret this tour.

We met the guides at Trocadero across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower and were on the bus at 7 am. About 30 people were on the tour and we were given opportunities to purchase breakfast and refreshments and use the restrooms at a stop about one hour into the 3-hour trip to Normandy. Our first stop in Normandy was Utah Beach where guide Emand drew a large map in the sand to explain the events of June 6, 1944. We visited a museum at Utah Beach and saw the landing craft before heading to a local cider production and tasting. We then went to Port Du Hoc’s battleground and had lunch at a nearby restaurant with our choice of fish or ham and veggies and bread. Apple pie was served for dessert. Then we went to Omaha Beach to see the cliffs and more bunkers. It was a strange feeling being in the well-fortified bunkers where Nazis were protected as they fired on the Allied troops landing at the beaches. We had ample time to walk through the bunkers, visit a gift shop and use the restrooms. The military cemetery at Omaha Beach has more than 9,000 gravesites including that of Gen. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. The trip back to Paris included another restroom break and opportunity to buy snacks. We arrived back at the meeting point in Paris at 8:55 pm. The Eiffel Tower lit up and sparkled five minutes later. I have been on 5-6 La Vacanza Travel tours in Europe and have never been disappointed.

Daniel our driver and Madeleine our guide made this trip special and treated us so well. A great experience to be able to pay tribute to those who gave so much for us. I would likely take this trip again.

This was a very personal tour for me as I have several relatives who were in WW2 both theaters of war. My father was at Pearl Harbor, a cousin fought at Okinawa which I have visited, another cousin was a pilot in Doolittles raid over Tokyo and he was killed by the Japanese, an Uncle who was in Patton's army in the battle of the bulge and another Uncle who served in England. James Rudder was born in Brady Texas about 50 miles from my home town. Sam was very knowledgeable and the tour was very sobering to me. Thank you to all who were involved in putting it on.
