Stops on the The WW1 Verdun Battlefields:
- Paris - We pick you up directly at your hotel in PARIS (other location possible)
- Haumont-près-Samogneux - The "Bois des Caures" is where the Colonel Driant command post was. The wood is scarred with shell holes, a mystic place of the opening day of the battle of Verdun.
- Ouvrage de Froideterre (Froideterre Fort) - One of the fort defending Verdun, it was heavily shelled but it remained in French hands despite numerous German assaults.
- Douaumont Ossuary - It's probably one of the most sacred place in France: the remains of 140.000 unknown French and German soldiers are buried there and in the cemetery beside rest in peace 16.000 French soldiers.
- Trench of Bayonets - The "Trench of the bayonets", when history becomes a myth...
- Fleury-devant-Douaumont - The village of Fleury-devant-Douaumont was completely destroyed and never rebuilt
- Verdun Memorial - A visit to this excellent museum will not be missed: recently redone, it offers an excellent display as well a good understanding of the 1916 events
- Douaumont - The Douaumont fort was captured by surprise by the Germans in the first days of the offensive. After loosing this important position, there were numerous French counter-attacks to recapture it. A visit outside and inside will tell you the tragedy of the men trapped in the fort...
- Verdun - We will pass the town of Verdun on our way back to PARIS
