Overview

"Discover Bulgaria with dance" is the only workshop in Sofia that gives tourist the opportunity to explore the culture of Bulgaria with the art of dance. You will have the chance to learn a folklore dance and taste a traditional meal. At the same time our instructors will give you interesting trivial information and insights on the customs of the region. To top it off, you will take a photo in a traditional dance costume(garb).

What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

The lesson is focusing on familiarizing the travelers with the Bulgarian traditions, especially regarding their folklore, by means of introducing particular geographic regions in Bulgaria. The presentation consists of general information on the respective region, the customs of its population, and of course concentrates on teaching an authentic dance (choro), relevant for the specific area.
Schedule:
1. We begin with a brief explanation on the customs and traditions of Shopluka, the temper of the Shop, the typical authentic dresses and costumes (garbs) and needless to say the different types of dances characteristic for the area.
2. Learning one of the most traditional dances
3. Dressing up with traditional dresses and costumes (garbs) and performing the respective dance (choro)
4. Competing in a dance battle type game with prices for the winners

    We attended the lesson as a small group of two people, but really enjoyed the experience! Throughout the hour, we learned four Bulgarian dancing steps, starting with the most useful at all events - Pravo Horo (Право Хоро). Then we moved to other common dances, pushing our comfort zone a bit and finding the limits of our leg speed. Finally, we finished with trying on traditional clothes, took some pictures, and videos to show family and friends. Overall an entertaining, most importantly useful lesson!

    The teacher is super nice and passionate about the Bulgarian traditional culture. It was a great pleasure to chat with her and learned about the traditional dances. My boyfriend was super nervous before the class but he was happy about the experience afterwards!

    We had the best time learning about the history of Bulgaria and the dancing traditions. We wish we had recorded or taken pictures of our dancing but we still learnt a lot and have zero regrets. Tempted to book a second class!!!

    Me and my three friends booked a one-hour lesson in Bulgarian dance and we had one of the best moments in Sofia. Daisy is a very nice and wonderful person, she taught us a little bit of history about the traditions of every part of Bulgaria. We had a lot of fun and learned three different dances. The most beautiful part was to wear those beautiful traditional dresses and to dance with them on. We would like to repeat it again!

    5/5. We did this on the first day in Sophia and loved it. The host was great and provided wine. It was fun getting dressed in Bulgarian traditional dress and we had a great time trying the different regional dances. Definitely would recommend!
