This self-guided, shared shuttle tour will take you to both the UNESCO Rila Monastery in the Rila National park in the morning and then in the afternoon to the city of Plovdiv - the cultural capital of Bulgaria. In the morning the shuttle bus will take you to the Rila Monastery where you have more than 1 hour to explore the site at your own pace. The complex is compact in size so the time allows to see the most important parts of it. After that in the afternoon the shared shuttle will take you on a 3.5 hours journey through the scenic mountains of Bulgaria to the city of Plovdiv - one of Bulgaria's most visited cultural and historical sites. You have more than 4.5 hours to explore the historical city center on your own. Driver will provide you with a tourist map and tips for what to see.

The bus guide gave us lots of general and specific information about our visit, and the history of Bulgaria. It was about a 2.30hr trip through interesting countryside with about 15 in the mini bus. Started at 7am which meant we missed the masses. The monastery is fascinating with a few surprises. Toilets are available but for us there was no toilet paper. We had roughly 1hr to explore the area by the river, but the only coffee available before 10.30am, was from a machine. The café didn't open until 10.30am which we couldn't wait for.

We had a nice time with Philip, the trip was very on time and everything is smooth. Driving was fast but smooth as well. overall very good experience!

Top tour really enjoyed it, perfectly organized and our guide Philip was super helpful and informative eventhogh it's not guided tour but definitely every thing were clear and well organized, highly recommended

The best tour I did while I was in Bulgaria! Philip was an excellent tour guide and he took us to Plovdiv and the Rila Monastery. This is the perfect itinerary for a day trip as it truly maximizes your time in Bulgaria. I loved Plovdiv and was enamored by the beauty of Rila Monastery. This is a must do tour in Bulgaria. Great locations, great guide. I liked the fact that it was self guided, yet our guide provided us with maps and tips. Although it was a full day, it was relaxing tk get out of Sofia. As we started early we had the Rila Monestry almost to ourselves. Magical location.
