An interesting and moving lesson of the history of the section of Rome which formed the first Jewish Ghetto in the world followed by a revealing glimpse of what day to day life is like today for typical Venetians living in today’s Cannareggio neighborhood. Our guide was a native Venetian who was able to gently balance the serious and difficult truths of the Jewish Ghetto’s past and dwindling present day profile with the seemingly perplexing pivot into the perspective of modern day life in a completely different and thriving local community.

Our guide Alessandra was fabulous - so knowledgeable and patient and great with kiddos too! She brought to life the origins of the Ghetto, the city life and the origins of banking in Europe.
